Dear @repdeliaramirez, In 2025, by overwhelming bipartisan support, H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, became law. A related bill in 2026, H.R. 7361 – No Tax on Restored Benefits Act, sponsored by Rep. Gooden (TX-5), aims to further the fight for justice by amending the Internal Revenue Code to exclude adjusted monthly benefits and retroactive pay received by beneficiaries in calendar year 2025. After decades of fighting to repeal the penalties, many retired public service workers living on fixed incomes were hit hard by the taxes levied in a single year, creating an unexpected financial burden and preventing them from experiencing the full breadth of fairness the repeal was meant to bring. H.R. 7361 proposes to rectify this economic hardship and, as a result, the income will not singularly trigger an increase in the 2027 IRMAA, where a future monthly premium liability is of grave concern. I strongly encourage you to cosponsor this significant legislation for all Americans who fell victim to the WEP and GPO, and for public service workers, to stop them from being repeatedly penalized for their service to our country.
