UK government inaction over monkeypox - like the reluctance to provide PrEP - proves that queers are only tolerated in ways that render us 'productive' and gloss the state. any demand for support shatters this veneer and marks us out as parasitic. tolerance is fragile.

“Impartial on LGBTQ lives” is so blackly sinister I don’t know whether to laugh or to scream.
Exclusive: The BBC is expected to quit Stonewall’s LGBTQ diversity programme. LGBTQ staff at the BBC told me they are “super scared” by the implications of the decision, and they hope managers will change their minds… vice.com/en/article/akgxm5/b…

ppl out here think ethics in tech is just about using diverse illustrations on their landing page, and not whether their apps can be used as tools of the police state

My father said, “A riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear? ...It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met."

Stop complaining about “riots.” Riots gave you 8-hour workdays, gay rights, and free speech.

this one is hilarious but also: parental controls that notify parents of "restricted" searches rather than just blocking them, are fucking terrifying. i've known too many queer kids who were outed by this type of software, to family that reacted in the worst ways possible

The biggest and most harmful myth of tech is that malintent is required to harm people.
But nobody at Uber said “oh, I know, let’s program the car to run over pedestrians!”

“No political ads on Twitter” sounds great until you remember that the ruling class decides what is political, and they always do so in their favor. The guidelines literally treat ads about climate change and healthcare as political.

I don’t understand why all the tech press stories today talk about Google’s acquisition of Fitbit as a hardware acquisition. Why are they being so naive? This is a data acquisition. It’s about the data. That’s why Facebook was trying to get Fitbit instead. #hellnonotmydata
