"If you’ve lived as long as I have, you’ll notice: former PSs, ministers of finance, even presidents and their families... all own banks. What we’re dealing with is NOT normal. In a truly democratic and accountable society, there’d be separation of power."

🌍 This week, an Okoa Uchumi delegation is taking part in the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings with one goal:
📢 To represent the voices and needs of the majority of Kenyans.
💬 We must reframe how we see the IMF/WorldBank— it is a bank with interests, not always aligned with our people’s priorities.
🇰🇪 The government’s inflated revenue projections, rising expenditure, and continued bloated structure have resulted in:
🔺 Increased taxation
🔻 Declining quality of public services
💸 A worsening debt burden on ordinary Kenyans.
We’re showing up to demand a shift from debt-driven decisions to people-centered priorities.
Because economic justice isn’t just a policy goal, it’s a promise to every Kenyan dreaming of dignity,
opportunity, and a better tomorrow. 🌱 #IMFMeetings

necessary for him to try and meet the revenue targets set by his government’s financiers. However, increasing economic hardship and continued corruption and impunity will only further fuel public discontent.'
