Press Statement: @MapinduziKE strongly condemns William Ruto’s recent remarks that essentially ordered a crackdown on foreigners more so Burundians running small businesses in Kenya. We at Kongamano la Mapinduzi wish to make it clear that an African head of state should be uniting Africans, not turning African people against one another. We call upon African movements, traders' organisations, human rights defenders, students, workers, artists, journalists and progressive citizens across Kenya and the continent to reject Afro-phobia wherever it appears. #MapinduziKE

As you celebrate #MashujaaDay, imagine a Kenya where citizens set the agenda, where the issues affecting our daily lives shape the national conversation and where leaders are held accountable to the people. That is the idea behind The People’s Manifesto. Before anyone asks for your vote in 2027, let them know what matters to you and what you expect them to deliver. Your priorities must shape the agenda. Contribute to The People’s Manifesto here thepeoplesmanifesto.me/ #WeThePeopleKE

We strongly condemn the manhandling of peaceful comrades and the media personnel today at Nairobi CBD. This was lawless, unwarranted and primitive. Such barbaric actions by the plainclothes police on picketers violates the law and the Constitution. #MapinduziKE

On this Mashujaa day, I celebrate our Gen-Z - this generation that birthed a political process that fundamentally changed the Kenyan political landscape in 2024. I also celebrate the generations that came before us; they not only spoke truth to power, but also pushed back against the excesses of unjust power. Nyinyi nyote ni mashujaa! As my comrades always remind us, “We stand not only on the shoulders of those who came before us, but also on the graves of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice”. We remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. All of them! Tupatane Mashujaa Festival pale Nairobi baadaye. Comrade President - Kiambu, 20 October 2026 #MashujaaDay

Ghanaian President John Mahama has challenged the global financial system, pointing out that Africa gives the world $240 billion annually but receives only $30 billion in foreign aid. Africa does not need charity. It needs justice, fair financing, and the power to retain and invest its own wealth. #ThisIsAfrica

At the Nanyuki Book Fair, October 2026. Congratulations to my friend Caleb Mwangome @CalMwangome who was featured as a guest author at the festival. His latest book, ‘How Much Can a Spine Hold?’ is now available in bookshops countrywide. By the way, who came up with the rather foolish idea of imposing 16% VAT(Value Added Tax) on books? Say NO to taxation of books!

HAPPY MASHUJAA DAY! 🇰🇪 This #MashujaaDay, we celebrate the heroes who stand up for survivors, challenge injustice and work every day to create a world free from sexual violence. Your willingness to listen without judgement, believe survivors, protect their dignity and walk alongside them in their pursuit of healing and justice makes a difference. You may not wear a uniform or receive a medal, but your courage, compassion and commitment to protecting others make you a true shujaa. Today, we honour you. #RestoringDignity

I’ve spent the last two days at the Cooperative Tribunal in Kisumu attending to some disputes within the larger cooperative movement. Food prices, and the attendant cost of living, keep soaring because of the lack of a comprehensive programme to support peasant farmers who produce over 80% of Kenya’s food. Our farmers have been betrayed by successive regimes that have collapsed the cooperative movement and killed agricultural extension services. Some time back, the Ruto government even tried to introduce punitive laws to criminalise indigenous seeds that are protected under Article 11 of the Constitution. instagram.com/p/Dejosniuqyi/…   We at the Kenya Left Alliance(KLA) will outlaw GMOs. We will strengthen agricultural extension services, introduce necessary subsidies and other support mechanisms for small-scale farmers at the points of production, aggregation and distribution of their produce with the objectives of boosting production and ensuring that farmers are paid just and fair prices. We will additionally resuscitate irrigation schemes across the country to boost food production, and revive the once-vibrant cooperative movement under a strict ethos to avoid past abuses. All power to the farmers! All power to the people!! #Kenya #Cooperatives #FoodSovereignity #MapinduziSasa

Yesterday’s People’s Assembly in Likii, Nanyuki. We held deliberations on social and economic justice with the great people of Laikipia as part of a series of People’s Assemblies organised by the Kenya Left Alliance(KLA). The land question remains one of the oldest unresolved national questions in Kenya. The alienation of land belonging to indigenous people and their communities in places like Laikipia by the colonial enterprise was unjust – and has been exacerbated by successive post-independence governments, both through their failure to address the initial dispossession and their own appetite for public land. The re-intensification of grabbing of public spaces, forests, and rangelands in recent years is additionally of particular concern to the people of Laikipia today. The people have asked us to actualize a land reform programme after the 2027 elections. This includes the repossession of all public land(s) that have been grabbed or public assets of strategic national importance that have been privatized, and place them back under public ownership. They additionally asked the incoming government to ensure that community lands are not commodified by a few, and are preserved for use by the intended communities. Our ultimate goal is to have equitable access to land for use for all. All power to the people!! #Laikipia #PeoplesAssembly #MapinduziSasa

The latest on the RMLF securitisation. The National Treasury and the Kenya Roads Board (KRB) have executed long-term legal and trust agreements to formalize a KES 156.97 billion Asset-Backed Securities (ABS) Programme, permanently encumbering future fuel levy receipts to retire short-term contractor debt. According to transaction documents finalized between September 14 and October 1, 2026, the Special Purpose Vehicle, OAK SPV Assetco Limited, entered into an Onshore Trust Deed with NCBA Bank Kenya PLC (as Note Trustee) and a formal Placing Agreement with a banking syndicate led by Absa Bank Kenya, KCB Investment Bank, and the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (TDB). These newly executed documents mark the formal long-term "take-out" refinancing phase. Under the agreement: The Instrument: Up to KES 156.96 billion in Asset-Backed Notes are being placed with institutional subscribers (pension funds, commercial banks, and regional development lenders). The Yield Benchmark: Key intercreditor terms anchor the internal yield on the underlying asset purchase at a fixed 12.72% per annum payable to the Kenya Roads Board on its Originator Note. The Proceeds: Cash raised from the long-term notes will be used to pay off the initial bridge facilities provided by commercial lenders. Mortgaging the Fuel Levy: To guarantee repayment to noteholders under NCBA’s trust deed, a dedicated slice of the Road Maintenance Levy Fund—scaling up to KES 12 per litre—is legally ring-fenced and continuously routed into escrow accounts before reaching state road agencies. Maintenance Budget Squeeze: While the structure resolves immediate contractor litigation and clears historical balance-sheet arrears, it locks in a massive fixed debt-service obligation over the next decade, sharply curtailing unencumbered cash available to agencies like KeNHA, KeRRA, and KURA for routine road maintenance. Private Placement vs. Public Oversight: By relying on off-balance-sheet SPV issuing structures and target placements restricted to "limited or qualified investors," the multi-billion-shilling transaction bypasses conventional parliamentary debt caps, raising ongoing questions regarding long-term fiscal transparency and public participation.

By Wakili @EOGADA Good morning. The relationship between governors and the national government is governed by the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. The starting point is Article 6(2), which provides that the governments at the national and county levels are distinct and inter-dependent and must conduct their mutual relations through consultation and cooperation. A governor is not a subordinate of the President, just as the President is not a subordinate of a governor. Each must respect the constitutional mandate of the other. On the specific dispute between President William Ruto and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, the Constitution is particularly clear on the question of markets. Part 2, paragraph 7(a) of the Fourth Schedule assigns trade development and regulation, including markets, to county governments. Article 186(1) reinforces this allocation by providing that the functions of the two levels of government are those set out in the Fourth Schedule. Further, section 5 of the County Governments Act, 2012, recognises the responsibility of county governments for functions assigned to them by the Constitution and legislation. If, as the Governor maintains, the Masinde Muliro Market in Kitale was constructed using county government funds and World Bank support, then the national government must acknowledge the county’s role and respect its constitutional mandate. The President is entitled to visit the market, engage with residents and support development. However, he cannot use the authority of his office to displace the county government’s lawful responsibility for the management of a devolved market. The legal question is not who gets the political credit for the project, but who has the constitutional authority and responsibility to manage it. The Governor’s account of the project’s funding and management should, of course, be verified against the relevant project and financing records. Article 174 of the Constitution identifies the objects of devolution, including democratic and accountable exercise of power, the recognition of the right of communities to manage their own affairs, and the promotion of social and economic development. Article 175 establishes the principles of county government, while Article 189(1) requires the two levels of government to perform their functions in a manner that respects the functional and institutional integrity of the other level. Article 189(2) further requires the two levels of government to make every reasonable effort to settle disputes through alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms, including negotiation, mediation and arbitration. The Intergovernmental Relations Act, 2012, provides the statutory framework for consultation, cooperation and the resolution of disputes between the national and county governments. My position is therefore that the President would be wrong to the extent that he treats a county market as though it were a national government project under his unilateral control. The Fourth Schedule places markets within the county government’s mandate. The President’s constitutional responsibility is not to dominate governors, but to respect devolution and cooperate with county governments in delivering services to Kenyans. The broader point is that devolution was intended to dismantle the concentration of power that characterised the old centralised system of government. A President cannot invoke development as a justification for disregarding the Constitution. Equally, a governor must exercise county authority lawfully and remain accountable for the proper management of county resources and services. The Constitution does not contemplate a contest between the President & governors for political supremacy. It contemplates two levels of government working together, each within its lawful mandate, for the benefit of the people. Where either level crosses that boundary, the answer is the Constitution and the law, not political intimidation or confrontation.
