Excited to share our latest paper, out today @CellCellPress. We found that large pieces of the human genome can transfer between cells upon direct contact, endowing recipient cells with heritable phenotypic changes. (1/7)

Super cool story, huge congrats Alex, Dipanjan and teams
(1/5) I am delighted to share our study published today @Nature nature.com/articles/s41586-0… collaboration with @Chowdhury Lab, led by @XiaoZheng3and @aniruddhSark. Huge congratulations to all the authors and collaborators.
Huge news for the lab.. very grateful for this @ERC_Research grant, big thanks to everyone involved
Our Group Leader Stamatis Papathanasiou has been awarded a Starting Grant from @ERC_Research to help fund his research on how errors during mitosis can cause persistent chromatin alterations that contribute to #ageing & #cancer.
Congrats Stamatis! 💐

The Papathanasiou group @stambio offers 2 #PhD projects investigating consequences of #mitosis errors.
One studies #transcription dysregulation, the other #chromatin state dysregulation and its inheritance.

A beautiful back to back paper from the David Pellman Lab and @stambio showing cell-to-cell transcriptional heterogeneity from micronuclei and cytoplasmic chromatin

Ok. My main paper from my post-doc in the Pellman is out now! 1/n nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
Mitotic errors are not only a source of genomic instability but can also generate transcription heterogeneity. 2/n
Big big thanks to all the authors and collaborators. Great back to back work from @Samuel_Bakhoum lab
Super cool sc method for mapping sites of DNA damage/repair. Of course from @kind_jop lab and @LabLegube. Amazing work

Just out, work from @PeterLyLab showing how micronuclei are inherited as a tethered chromatin mass. Beautiful..
How do unique patterns of chromothripsis emerge in cancer and genomic disorders? Now out @Nature, we show that CIP2A-TOPBP1 tethers pulverized chromosomes from micronuclei, drives its asymmetric inheritance, and promotes a distinct rearrangement signature.

Grateful to join the team @imbmainz and be among all these cool people. Looking forward to exciting new adventures. Reach out if you are interested to be part of the voyage.
Welcome to Stamatis Papathanasiou, IMB's new Group Leader! His research focuses on deciphering how errors during cell division could cause heritable transcriptional dysregulation & #epigenetic instability, which can contribute to #ageing & #cancer.

I am very excited to share that I will start my lab in spring ’23 in Frankfurt @FCI_health
@goetheuni. Looking forward to diving more into the epigenetic mechanisms driving leukemic transformation. [1/n]

So cool Nikos! Looking forward to the new work from @nkonst4 lab
Finally, it's out! And much improved after the review process. A great farewell from @ClaudeDesplan's lab. Importantly, it was a very enjoyable collaboration between three equally contributing first authors, @Holguera_Isabel, @tonymrossi, and myself. nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
Great job @methxim
Excited to share our preprint showing that parabiosis regulates aging hallmarks by shifting aging-induced changes of the transcriptome in multiple brain cell types. Great teamwork between @LeeRubinlab @jzlevin AvivRegev AmyWagers | @HSCRB @BroadInstitute | biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Micronuclei are a previously unappreciated source of transcription and epigenetic heterogeneity!
