Our farm auction opened today & will close on October 20th. Thanks to @SteffesGroup for this video. youtu.be/LHCKJgDYBv8?is=pHNF… While @GerryHertz & I are ready to retire from farming, this all still feels very strange! Some have said it must be bittersweet; yes, I suppose it is.

C'est un euphémisme. 63 q/ha sur le maïs, betteraves au niveau de 1980 : on n'avait pas vu une récolte pareille depuis des décennies.

Do you recognize this harbour with a popular beach just east of town? This was part of a lunch flight from Wingham airport with my dad on Sept. 22nd. This approx. 1 hour flight included views of lakes, ski hills, apple orchards, lakeshore and more plus a stop at an airport with a little restaurant right at the airport! Can you guess what our route might have been? See a wide variety of flight lengths and route options (or make your own route at no extra cost) at PappleAviation.ca. #agrisagronomy I was hoping this would be harder to find. Gib Ear Rot starts at the tip, pinkish in color and moves down the cob following the silk channels. The Hershey Candy twist on the husks is usually a indictor there might be mold on the cob.

Obviously, just the field receiving it. Similarly to how I would describe organic farmers launder commercial fertilizer, I would describe organic matter is being laundered on regenerative farms where it is imported to check a box on a certification.

In USA trade negotiations, if Canada was not allowed to decide who we trade with. Canada walked away because of loss of sovereignty. If Associate EU membership means adopting EU regulatory standards for things like GM crops, then the loss of sovereignty issue also applies.

American Chestnut Foundation president Michael Goergen worries about “contamination of the gene pool” — a rift that split his group from the tree’s developers in 2023. Still, @SUNYESF ’s Andrew Newhouse calls the deregulation “huge,” as it's the first time #biotech has cleared this bar for #conservation rather than #agriculture. geneticliteracyproject.org/2…

Can precision agriculture help rebuild soil while protecting it from further erosion? Our white paper, Driving Regenerative and Sustainable Agricultural Practices with Precision, explores this through a case study titled "Maintaining Soil Cover and Managing Phosphate to Reduce Erosion and Runoff." In hummocky landscapes, eroded hilltops can lead to poor seed placement, low plant populations, and exposed soil that is vulnerable to further erosion. In our case study, variable rate seeding was used to increase crop establishment in vulnerable areas, while phosphate rates were adjusted by SWAT zone based on soil P supply and expected yield removal. The goal was to build ground cover, support soil health, and minimize excess phosphate and runoff. 🌱THE RESULT: Over time, increased crop roots and biomass can improve soil health and reduce seedling mortality, allowing seeding rates to eventually return to normal. This is a practical example of using field specific data to improve crop establishment while protecting soil. Read the full case study in our white paper here: bit.ly/4dmmWVD #SWATMAPS #precisionag #regenerativeag

We just announced Canada’s new Productivity Mega Deduction. This cuts Canada’s marginal effective tax rate from 13% to 6.4% on new business investment — the lowest of any major economy in the world. Canada is building big — and becoming the best place in the world to build. More here: pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releas…
