#agrisagronomy Sept 15 planted wheat enjoying favorable weather. After peas, shallow tillage to prepare seed bed no residue to worry about.

#agrisagronomy yield is function of Kernel# and Kernel mass. Doing some hand samples for TKW and yield est. First 3 sites are same field. Site 2 is droughty sandy knoll, strong TKW but half the kernel count.

#agrisagronomy some early TKW on corn from April 27th planting date at 388 grams or 65,525 kernels per bushel. higher kernel mass plus high kernel count will drive higher yields.

#agrisagronomy I was hoping this would be harder to find. Gib Ear Rot starts at the tip, pinkish in color and moves down the cob following the silk channels. The Hershey Candy twist on the husks is usually a indictor there might be mold on the cob.

#agrisagronomy Sept 15 planted wheat growth stage Zadok's 12 after 247 GDD accumulation. Tillering will start after Z 13 roughly 300 GDD accumulation. Averaging 15 GDD per day might see first tillers in the next week switch to Z 2.0 GS

#agrisagronomy milk line moving slowly, not a bad thing as long as we have green leaves making sugar. DKC 4808 RIB, 98 day corn Planted May 1st. 3201 CHU from May 1st to date.

#agrisagronomy soys heading into peak nutrient demand at GS R4- a pod 3/4 inch in length on any one of the 4 upper most nodes with a fully developed trifoliate leaf. Plant tissue should be done now before nutrients remobilize from leaves to seeds at R5 .

#agrisagronomy corn is working really hard now during peak nutrient demand. This is why we soil test and apply the appropriate amount of essential nutrients following the 4R principles Right : Source, Rate, Time and Place

#agrisagronomy reminder when spraying Liberty on large weeds coverage is key. Also spray when weeds are small. These pics from BASF in London last year I learn more from these plots than I do clean plots.

#agrisagronomy grain fill period on wheat it takes 660 GDD from flowering to physiological maturity not quite there in London area, achieved that in Essex and started harvest there. High temps at end shorten grain fill to 33 days not 35 as expected

#agrisagronomy tracking grain fill days on wheat since flowering. We are ahead on GDD yr/yr. we were on track for 35 day grain fill period in London area 6 more days to go. Coming heat will shorten that. In Essex likely 2 more days on early fields current GDD to date 623 of 660

#agrisagronomy a few dead heads attached to healthy plants sometimes mistaken for take all, it is caused by stem fly larva tunneling in and cutting off flow of water and nutrients to the heads at the top node, head is easily pulled out

#agrisagronomy last minute thoughts on Nitrate Soil testing. Does the lab test for both ammonium N and Nitrate N this is important for farms with Manure. Not all manure will be in nitrate form at time of sampling? Does the lab report them separately or combined?
