Our farm auction opened today & will close on October 20th. Thanks to @SteffesGroup for this video. youtu.be/LHCKJgDYBv8?is=pHNF…
While @GerryHertz & I are ready to retire from farming, this all still feels very strange! Some have said it must be bittersweet; yes, I suppose it is.
Just when you think he couldn't get any worse. And 2 more years to go.😪

2026 was not a good year for agriculture in France.

Relative to 2012:
Farm machinery depreciation cost index = 285.5.
Motor vehicle depreciation cost index = 68.7.
I find the the increase in farm machinery costs to be outrageous.
If you farm in corn country, you should take 27 min to view this video by @castellmj where he describes in some detail an extensive new Iowa program - sometimes county specific - to better define the corn N fertility needs of farmers. youtu.be/kYvt5eZWILQ?si=ZA9Q…

Story from @tspencenews
washingtonsun.com/health-sci…
This is a fascinating read, even if heavy on US politics at the end.
It's about the balance between climate change - which is occurring, with specific linked societal needs - and 'climate change' lobbyists trying hard to connect this to a myriad of unrelated pet-issues.
Quebec research data: 3 yrs, 30 site-yrs.
Corn without N fert ave 92 kg/ha N from soil mineralization. With 170-200 kg/ha of N fert, ave total uptake 176 kg/ha N.
In another study (same data) total seasonal soil mineralized N supply >200.
Total N usage =<50%.
We must do better!

Do you recognize this harbour with a popular beach just east of town?
This was part of a lunch flight from Wingham airport with my dad on Sept. 22nd. This approx. 1 hour flight included views of lakes, ski hills, apple orchards, lakeshore and more plus a stop at an airport with a little restaurant right at the airport! Can you guess what our route might have been?

I get a scientific paper (free) to read or skim each morning from Academia.edu on soil management and quality. They inform me that they have 36,411 papers on "Soil organic matter." One per day for 100 years. I guess I'll be reading for awhile.

#agrisagronomy I was hoping this would be harder to find. Gib Ear Rot starts at the tip, pinkish in color and moves down the cob following the silk channels. The Hershey Candy twist on the husks is usually a indictor there might be mold on the cob.
A great article, @stuartsmyth66 , but I fear that those committed to a science-based food system are not still not winning - the "problem" being our farmers' ability to keep producing lots of food despite populist-based dictates on usable technology.

Frost seeding clover into wheat works extremely well in our area. The main challenge is that once the wheat matures and starts to senesce, the clover shoots up with the availability of sunlight. It makes good weather at harvest time very critical.
We drove Guelph-Mitchell ON and return yesterday. 180 km, different return route. Growing number of fields with cover crops but only one spotted with red clover. Poor stands (often, though not always) limit red-clover-into-wheat usage.
