The main criticism of Infantino is about him, FIFA, football and World Cup being politically compromised — rather than his ability to put on a good show.
(It's the World Cup, for god's sake. Of course it's good.)

I don’t post here much. But I’ll roll this grenade down the aisle: 2am testing is one of the very effective ways to prevent peptide(EPO,hGH) and testosterone micro dosing. If UCI had tested us in 2001 at 2am? We’d all have been suspended and saved the sport 25 years of drama.

Kibiwott Kandie has received a seven-year ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit after admitting to refusing a sample collection and tampering with the doping control process.
The former half-marathon world record-holder ran 57:32 in 2020 and sits No.3 on the world all-time rankings behind Jacob Kiplimo and Yomif Kejelcha.
Kandie faced an eight year sanction but cooperated with officials and received a one year reduction.
The Kenyan is a three-time Valencia Half Marathon champion in 2020, 2022 and 2023 and Commonwealth Games (10,000m) bronze medallist in 2022.

So many tweets on my timeline like, ‘this is either the continuation of a grand conspiracy against Alex Schwazer or he’s a psychopath’ as if that is irrefutable evidence that it’s all a conspiracy…
The man is a narcissist that will do whatever it takes to win.
In 2011, using the fake name Alfred Rainer, Alex starts working with doping Doctor Michele Ferrari. Shortly after he gets his World Champion figure skater girlfriend banned by having her lie about his whereabouts to evade being tested.
But eventually he gets caught with EPO because he wasn’t good enough to win without it. He cries and talks about how he is done with sport.
Then he comes back in 2016, stronger than ever, dominates the World Cup… but ultimately has that result taken away after a sample from January 1st was found to contain exogenous Testosterone.
This time, no admittance of guilt. Instead he went on a defense rooted in sabotage and conspiracy. He made a fake Twitter account to defend himself and belittle his competitors. He claimed he would show up in Rio and race 50km at the same time as the Olympics to show how much better he was than everyone else (this never happened).
During his ban he continued to break anti doping rules, unpunished, by offering coaching services, and attending club events (both against WADA rules).
But Alex gained a cult following from this claim of conspiracy which led to increased fame, Big Brother, a Netflix documentary… which I’m sure all fed his narcissistic ego supremely well.
In 2024, when he returned to competition following his 8 year ban, he was pretty slow and got disqualified in a number of races. His one official result in 2025 was a 43min 10km.
Then, out of nowhere, earlier this year he walked a European record 3:01:55 marathon (the race where this positive test comes from). Whatever it takes to be the best.
Once again Alex is laying the foundation of a conspiracy by claiming to have their own sealed sample of urine from the same test (completely inadmissible). Despite EPO being present in both his blood and urine samples he is claiming that unless they also perform a test on this mystery 3rd sample with no chain of custody or care then it’s proof of a conspiracy, but one that he is ‘too tired’ to fight. And his cult will eat that up.
To them, Alex will always be a martyr and a champion. But to his fellow athletes, we know him for what he really is: a disgrace who would do anything to win. And as a result we are left wondering whether his Beijing Gold was achieved honestly or not.

🇬🇧 UK Athletics has published the findings of its investigation into coach Andrew Young – who coached Laura Muir until March 2023.
Two independent panels reviewed Young’s conduct. Both concluded he committed serious misconduct that fell far below UKA coaching standards.
In the first one, the panel considered 33 charges and upheld 9 charges including 7 serious ones.
A lot ot unpack in the rulings, but there were instances raised where: he was driving recklessly with an athlete after a disagreement, then abandoned them roadside; claims of criticizing athletes who raised injury concerns; forcing athletes to compete or train despite physiotherapists advising otherwise; closely monitored/restricted one athlete’s nutrition despite them already working with a qualified professional.
He was initially sanctioned in October 2024 with a 5-year licence revocation, backdated to April 2023, with mandatory rehabilitative training required before reinstatement.
Upon appeal, that sanction was reduced to 3 years and still backdated to April 2023. He will have to complete welfare/medical/anti-bullying training before being reinstated. This means he's barred from coaching under UK Athletics until April 2026 at the earliest.
----
Laura Muir issued the following statement in UK Athletics's release:
"I have chosen to waive my anonymity and confirm my involvement in this case. I fully support the decisions reached by both independent panels and I am grateful that the process has been followed through so thoroughly. I want to thank those who came forward and those who contributed to the process — it has not been easy, but it was necessary.
Athletics has always been my passion, and I am pleased to say that I have rediscovered the love of my sport and the enjoyment of training and working within a supportive and positive coaching environment. I am now focused on the future, looking forward to the next few years of my career, and putting this difficult chapter firmly behind me.”

Biggest issue I see with this model getting popular is it sets up a framework where doping is more incentivized or low risk within the tested sports. If you get caught, your career doesn’t end, it may even take off.

The CAS decision on 🇪🇹 Diribe Welteji has been published and it includes the details that on Feb. 25th, a doping control officer for the Ethiopian Anti-Doping Agency arrived at her home. Her husband answered the door and told the DCO that she would not provide a doping sample because the DCO arrived outside her testing time slot.
The DCO spoke with Welteji, who also declined to provide a sample. The DCO warned Welteji of the consequences.
Welteji was charged with an anti-doping rule violation on May 31st. After she appealed, a panel determined that she did not commit an anti-doping violation.
That’s when the AIU stepped in to appeal for a provisional suspension.
