We showed that #Lyme bacteria
mimic our own“don’t eat me” signal with their P66 protein to hide in plain sight!!! This tricks our SIRPa protein to trigger the breaks on immune clearance!

New paper on aSyn O-GlcNAc modification with @Hlashuel and amazing collabs. @SaelicesL, Kelvin Luk & Virginia Lee. Briefly, we find that a certain O-GlcNAc forces aSyn to make a distinct amyloid structure which can seed aggregation in vitro but…
it induces almost no pathology in neurons or mice (PFF injection model). Mechanically, the O-GlcNAc amyloid does not seed aggregation of endogenous aSyn in neurons. Yet another mechanism where O-GlcNAc can promote the solubility of aSyn and inhibit aggregation.
