I’m not following the right ppl - or maybe they don’t exist on Twitter space anymore - if I’m not seeing any discussion on the outcome of the STAR/CHIP and just how community plans got screwed by Texas HHSC. Huge implications

Many states are experimenting with expanding Medicaid access to cover prison and jail inmates leading up to their release, to facilitate health care delivery once they're back in the community. A growing body of research shows this will likely reduce recidivism! Check out my conversation with @melizburns & @LauraDague about their fascinating research from Wisconsin.

Joint work with @EconHembre is now in @JournalTax. We started this project on Housing Choice Vouchers and SSI in 2018(ish) after a chat at a conference about disability preferences in local Public Housing Authorities!
Turns out the two benefits are substitutes, not complements.
New work in @JournalTax:

I had the great privilege of discussing this paper at a conference a few years ago. I was (and remain) struck by the evidence supporting financial security as a stronger mechanism than health/substance use! So interesting.
I have been waiting ✨ages✨ for this paper and it is finally here! 🥳
@LauraDague @melizburns show that expanding Medicaid not only reduces recidivism but has substantial impacts on financial security and employment. Super novel and important work: nber.org/system/files/workin…
