“This is the dilemma of the #Uganda-n child born between the late 80s and the 90s: a generation raised on the promise of infinite hope anchored on the heroism of a [guerilla] savior, or what I like to call a ‘political daddy’.”
First Substack article. Happy ‘Independence’ Day.
Stuart Hayford [Ato Essandoh] is my favorite Stuart on US Television, since Family Guy’s Stewie Griffin. Very different characters, similar endearment. I was ready to take out Penn myself for firing him, glad the writers made the team stand with him.

Kid Cudi just announced that he’ll play Jean-Michel Basquiat in ‘JEAN,’ a film he will also write and direct. Filming is expected to begin in 2027, marking his third feature as director after the upcoming ‘Doe’ and ‘Wrong Number.’
Cudi shared an early wardrobe test alongside the announcement, explaining that years of suggestions he should play Basquiat finally pushed him to write the film himself. He describes it as “a love letter to Jean, the 80s and NY city,” drawing on research and conversations with people who knew the artist.

The literacy crisis isn’t that people can’t read the words. It’s that they can’t understand the context, infer meaning, recognise nuance, identify contradictions, or draw logical conclusions from what they’ve read
Women and girls, once again bearing the brunt of these idiots’ actions. A reminder that the church has often been and continues to be, among other things, a site of gendered abuse and exploitation.

Second traveler to “leave hospital where they’re being treated and get on a flight.” Presumably before complete remission. Is Uganda being scapegoated as gov’t comms claims? Are we missing something, or are certain ‘important’ patients flouting SOPs? @MinofHealthUG @assempebwa
Oh, #Uganda! No amount of tourism campaigns and marathons is going to sanitize this state-sanctioned violence, I am afraid.

Literature, art, they unindoctrinate you. The more you read, the more people begin to look like people, and less like the demarcations of caste, religion, and region into which the world insists on dividing them.

I do wonder if this energy is returned when the dependents are not children. Do you check in on your friends with ailing parents? Bedridden siblings? Chronically ill cousins? Impoverished aunts? Or is tribe only a thing that mothers are allowed to dream of?
And it translates to the audience. A truly immersive experience.👏🏾

We shouldn't be mean to people who aren't academically smart but we absolutely have a right + responsibility to shame the intellectually incurious. The world is literally on fire because of anti-intellectualism
The seamless incorporation of opera and theatre as foreshadow for his ‘final hour’? That overlap of theatre-cinema -television all at once? Rousing! Delicious! Give us another season!
I really, really particularly love the complexity and care with which the writers at #TheDiplomat are unfolding the Eidra-Stuart storyline. The series is brilliant through and through.

Oh? So…not because he performed well in said ministerial positions? Ok.
“Why do you think I remained a minister for all those years? I am family with @KagutaMuseveni.” - @okelloryem, Former State Minister for Foreign Affairs

We will never live down the shame of this happening in public, on camera, and the authorities just brushing it off with an alleged reprimand and that’s it.
Not nearly enough.
