The discovery of fire, invention of the submarine, and the 2026 Colorado School of Mines Alumni Happy Hour baby!
(And NAPE After Dark)
Excited to be hosting a live @collide_ai webinar at 10 AM today with Tim Robinson from Exebenus!
We’ll be diving into:
- Applying #MachineLearning for rate-of-penetration optimization with safeguards against drilling hazards & dysfunctions
- Integrating real-time hazard detection systems with #LLMs & #RAG to interpret risks and recommend actions in live operations
If you’re interested in where oil & gas operations meet advanced data & AI, this one’s for you!

Ordering food for the family in Galveston, and I land on this joint with locations in Galveston and…Williston, ND??
Gotta be oil and gas owned, no?!
#EFT
“Of course that’s your contention. You just wrapped your summer internship and read a BCG report on energy transition strategy. Now you’re convinced the future of oil and gas is digital twins, predictive maintenance, and ‘culture-first digital transformation.’
That’ll last until you get into a field office and find out the compressor data still comes in a PDF attached to an email from someone named Rusty.
Next month you’ll be quoting Deloitte on ‘full-stack decarbonization,’ and then next year, you’ll be pitching AI-powered lease optimization to a land team that still uses fax machines.
Let me guess…you read ‘The Prize’ and now you think you understand upstream economics?
See, the thing is, in 20 years you’re gonna realize the business was never about the slide deck, the acronyms, or the strategy offsite in Austin.
It was about talking to the foreman, finding the leak, and making sure the wells came back online Monday morning.
You dropped $180K on a degree when the answers were at the well pad the whole time.”

A broken clock is right twice a day.”
But here is a twist that hit me recently:
A working clock that is off by just one second is never right. Not even once.
It keeps ticking. It moves forward. It looks perfectly functional. But it is always wrong.
In the real world, sometimes our systems are just a second, or a decimal point, off.
And that can be more dangerous than something that is clearly broken.
An obviously broken dashboard gets attention. People know not to trust it. A data pipeline that fails loudly gets fixed.
But a report that is subtly wrong? A forecast model that is just slightly biased? A business logic error that shows the wrong numbers by a few percent?
That kind of incorrectness is invisible. And it undermines trust quietly, over time.
