Read my Article @AJEnglish on the need for a new way forward for peace in Sudan. " We must avoid the RSF-SAF dichotomy. They are not the only actors, although they do represent the visible face of the war. The conflict has many layers and involves countless actors with diverse motivations. More than 10 armed groups are fighting this war on both sides; each has its own ambitions and interests, and many represent communities within Sudan." aljazeera.com/opinions/2026/… #KeepEyesOnSudan

For three years, civilians have been at the center of the violence in Sudan. They have been targeted, displaced, and left without protection. Women and girls, in particular, continue to face the worst of it.

#Op_ed: Lives on Hold: Humanitarian crisis deepens amid stalled peace in #Tigray addisstandard.com/?p=56200 More than three years after the Pretoria Peace Agreement, Tigray’s reality reflects a fragile peace marked by stalled implementation and a deepening humanitarian crisis, writes Gebremichael Negash. He notes, “The human cost of delayed implementation is no longer abstract; it is being counted in deaths.” While active conflict has largely subsided, the author explains that more than five million people still require emergency assistance, with nearly 891,000 internally displaced across 146 #IDP camps, many living in prolonged uncertainty. At the same time, restrictions on cash, fuel, and humanitarian access continue to compound the crisis. Gebremichael emphasizes that such "denial of humanitarian assistance can amount to collective punishment" when it targets civilians. The author underscores that the path forward is clear but urgent: restoring services, ensuring full humanitarian access, and enabling safe returns. He concludes, “What remains is a choice: act now… or allow delay to deepen a crisis already measured in lives lost.”

Hospitals are not targets. Children are not collateral. Strikes on hospitals and the killing of civilians point to serious violations of international humanitarian law. Sudanese need accountability and sustained international pressure
As families across Sudan marked the end of Ramadan, at least 64 people, including 13 children, were reportedly killed when a drone strike hit a major hospital in el-Daein, the capital of East Darfur state. Eid al-Fitr should be a day of joy, celebration and spending time with loved ones. Instead, children in Sudan are being killed in places where they should be safe. Since the conflict started almost three years ago, it's been reported that drones have been used in over 1,000 attacks, killing civilians including children. Children are not only caught in the crossfire but in many cases, they are directly targeted or suffer the long-term consequences of conflict. They should not be paying the price for a conflict they did not create. The UK Government must do everything it can to ensure the perpetrators of these horrific crimes are held to account, and push for an immediate end to the violence. Between August 2024 to December 2025, over 840 women have been arbitrarily detained by military intelligence and local authorities in Wad Madani (Al Gezira), Gedaref, Port Sudan, Dilling, Kadugli, El Obeid and Khartoum — accused of “collaborating” with the RSF. Though 402 women were released from Omdurman Women’s Prison for being held under difficult humanitarian circumstances, following a directive from the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, on January 9, 2026, the issue of arbitrary detention persists. Over crowded cells. Deplorable conditions. Humiliation, racist abuse and physical violence. Women are indefinitely held in the shadows. This is a painful reality, with thousands of women detained who remain unknown. In addition to collaboration charges, women are arrested under public order laws targeting street vendors and brewers as well as morality laws around adultery and indecency. Some have even been sentenced to death, only for these verdicts to be overturned when afforded independent legal assistance. Our report titled “More than Numbers”, highlights the critical need for women in these circumstances to be liberated, to have access to grassroot networks of attorneys for independent legal support and to be afforded overall justice. “Unless you act now, you will have more blood on your hands,” our Regional Director @Halayalkarib warns the United Nations Security Council in her address on the ongoing crisis in Sudan yesterday. In this powerful testimony, Hala describes over 1000 days of war and a conflict that has crossed every red line - genocide, mass displacement, a collapsed health system, the rampant spread of STIs (HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B), starvation, mass rape, unchecked foreign intervention, and the unfettered flow of arms into the country, fueling more violence. Her message is clear: The future of Sudan cannot be built on impunity and inaction.
