From the article. [Rape and sexual violence were central to The Gambia's case. โ€œThey selected, particularly, women and girls of reproductive age. They gang raped them. We are in Brussels this week, joining the first high-level international conference on the protection of humanitarian aid workers hosted by the European Commission and the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026. Through the Protect Aid Workers programme, we are honored to be a partner of this important event. Today, our colleague Myat's powerful testimony exposed the reality facing aid workers in Myanmar: criminalised for delivering food and medicine, detained and tortured, and sometimes killed simply for helping their communities. In July, three young LGBTQI+ aid workers were reportedly executed while carrying humanitarian assistance. Their deaths reflect a deliberate strategy to cut communities off from aid and extinguish hope. LAW is providing emergency assistance, developing tailored legal support and documenting attacks for future accountability. To date, our team has provided legal support to more than 190 aid workers across 19 countries, helping secure 21 releases and advising 27 people still detained. Those who help civilians are not criminals. Those who attack them must face consequences. Crรฉdit : Kevin Zuijderhoff / Powwow

Joanne Levitan, Public Information Officer at the @UNGeneva's Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM), recently visited LAWโ€™s field centre near Coxโ€™s Bazar to meet our Rohingya Survivor Advocates. Their discussion explored the IIMMโ€™s work, ongoing international justice processes and the advocatesโ€™ role in keeping communities informed and supporting survivor participation in the pursuit of accountability. โš–๏ธ The path from a survivorโ€™s testimony to an international courtroom depends on trust and sustained cooperation. Working together to collect and preserve testimonies helps ensure survivorsโ€™ accounts contribute to justice and accountability at the highest level, with their voices and priorities informing that pursuit. Survivor Advocates provide a vital connection between these processes and their communities, sharing developments, explaining options for justice and supporting meaningful participation. โ€œ๐˜ž๐˜ฆโ€™๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜บ ๐˜จ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ง๐˜ถ๐˜ญ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ซ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฐ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ,โ€ Joanne said, recognising their work to help Rohingya communities understand the accountability processes taking place in their names. ๐Ÿ† Navi Pillay's Nobel Peace Prize is a victory not only for one remarkable woman, but for international justice itself. โš–๏ธ Few individuals have done more to advance gender justice. From her tenure as UN High Commissioner for United Nations Human Rights โ€” to serving as a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), the International Criminal Court, and judge ad hoc at the Cour internationale de Justice (CIJ) โ€” she helped secure the landmark recognition that rape and sexual violence can constitute genocide, fundamentally changing how international law recognises such harm and opening new paths to accountability for survivors worldwide. That legacy remains deeply relevant today. As the world awaits the ICJ's judgment in The Gambia v. Myanmar, where sexual violence against Rohingya women and girls is a key part of the evidence before the Court, Navy Pillayโ€™s contributions continue to shape how international law understands and responds to atrocity crimes.
