For survivors of Sudan’s conflict, documenting violations must lead to justice that addresses the harm they have suffered and gives them a meaningful role in shaping what comes next. On October 14, DNHR will convene “All Eyes on Transitional Justice for Sudan,” a side event during the 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The discussion will examine what can begin while the conflict continues, from protecting survivors and preserving evidence to planning reparations and ensuring displaced and refugee communities can participate safely. Commissioner Selma Sassi-Safer, Mohammed Elgizoly Adam, Priscilla Yagu Shalom Ciesay, and Imran Darboe will join the panel, moderated by Vanessa Babirye. Join us on October 14, 2026, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Saint Louis Conference Hall, King Fahd Palace Hotel, Dakar, Senegal. #Sudan #TransitionalJustice #ACHPR #AllEyesOnTransitionalJusticeForSudan

#Update from South Darfur Reported Civilian Casualties Following a Drone Attack on Nyala’s Mawash Market | Nyala, South Darfur State Preliminary information indicates that a drone attack struck the grilling and restaurant area of Nyala’s Mawash Market on Friday, 16 October 2026, reportedly killing and injuring civilians, including women selling tea and women working in restaurants. Initial reports suggest dozens of casualties. However, the number of people killed and injured, as well as their identities, has not been independently verified. Accounts received attribute the attack to a drone operated by the Sudanese Armed Forces. This attribution remains subject to independent verification through witness testimony, visual material and other evidence. The information currently available does not establish the motive for the attack or whether civilians were deliberately targeted. Reports that women tea vendors and restaurant workers were among the casualties raise grave concerns about the safety of women who rely on daily earnings to support their families. The attack also raises concerns about its impact on livelihoods and access to food in the city. The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) calls for urgent medical assistance for the injured, unhindered access to medical and humanitarian services, and the protection of civilians, markets, and Mawash. DNHR also calls for an independent and transparent investigation to establish the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible. Evidence must be preserved to support accountability and justice for victims and their families.

#North Kordofan: SAF and Joint Forces advance as UAV strikes threaten El Obeid: #Key findings The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and SAF-aligned Joint Forces gained ground in North Kordofan in September and early October. Meanwhile, strikes by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, continued to hit civilian populations and infrastructure in the city of El Obeid, which shelters a rapidly growing displaced population. SAF and aligned forces made advancements in North Kordofan in September and early October. From 6 September to 2 October 2026, the SAF and Joint Forces reportedly gained control of Hamrat Al-Wiz, Al Kukeiti, Sawdiri, and Al-Mazroub. Al-Mazroub was one of the last major RSF-held areas in North Kordofan. UAV strikes on El Obeid continued in September, killing civilians and destroying educational infrastructure. On 9 September, a strike that CIR assessed with high confidence was perpetrated by the RSF on the College of Developmental and Technological Sciences reportedly killed a security guard and severely damaged the library and labs. A second strike on 28 September on Sheikan College and the Sports City reportedly killed a child and injured 12 others. The displaced population in El Obeid is growing. The Unified IDP camp gained over 1,200 tents between 4 August and 4 October. Each new arrival adds to the number of vulnerable civilians sheltering in the city as UAV attacks continue. Sexual violence is being reported at scale. Displaced women in El Obeid have reported RSF fighters perpetrating sexual violence against them. The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa Network (SIHA) reported documenting more than 71 cases of sexual violence across the wider Kordofan region in a single week at times. info-res.org/sudan-witness/a…

#Update from North Darfur: Reported Drone Attack Raises Concerns over Access to Food. Furawiya, in Kernoi locality, was reportedly targeted in a drone attack on the evening of 14 October 2026. According to preliminary information, two vehicles were burned and three others were targeted south of the market. Two people were reportedly killed and eight others injured. Local sources attributed the attack to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), although this allegation has not been independently verified. The area is reportedly under the control of the Joint Forces and inhabited by members of the Zaghawa community. The reported attack near the market raises serious concerns about residents’ **right to adequate food**, including their ability to access food safely. Violence around markets can prevent families from purchasing essential supplies, discourage traders from operating, and disrupt food transportation and livelihoods. However, the purpose of the affected vehicles and any actual disruption to market activities or food supplies have not yet been verified. Telecommunications outages and the lack of internet access have left all volunteers unreachable, limiting efforts to verify the incident and assess its impact on access to food. DNHR calls for the protection of civilians, markets, and food supply routes, and for safe access to food and humanitarian assistance. Further verification is needed to establish the circumstances of the attack and its consequences for affected communities.

In Wad Hashim town in Sennar, there was recently a severe dengue fever outbreak, leaving the local health centre unable to cope with the volume of patients needing treatment. After members from the community reached out to us, we were able to deliver the necessary medical supplies to bring the outbreak under control. We continue to try and cover as many urgent needs as we can, but we can only continue to do this with your help. If you are able to contribute, the link is in the reply; in all other cases, please share widely. Thank you.

#Update from South Darfur: Citizen Shot Dead Near His Home in Kas Locality, South Darfur 11 October 2026, around midnight, in Al-Kifah neighborhood, East Al-Irsal area, Kas Locality, South Darfur State The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) received an initial report concerning the fatal shooting of Al-Saudi Muhammad Qadaf, aged 24, according to the source, near his home in Al-Kifah neighborhood, Kas Locality. According to the source, the victim was sitting outside his home after closing his shop when two masked individuals approached him. The source stated that the victim fired towards them first, fearing an attack. The masked individuals reportedly then fired at him, striking him in the head and killing him. DNHR has not independently verified the sequence of gunfire, the circumstances of the confrontation, or the attackers’ motives. Their identities and affiliations remain unknown. The source reported that individuals followed the attackers’ tracks, which reportedly led to Kalmu village. This account has not been independently verified and, on its own, does not establish the attackers’ identities, places of residence, or community affiliations. The source also stated that local parties offered to pay diya (customary compensation for a death) and compensate for losses. However, the victim’s family reportedly insisted that those responsible be identified and brought forward before any settlement was considered. According to the source, Omda Abdullah Adam Othman, a traditional leader of the Misseriya Jebel community, continues efforts to help identify the attackers. DNHR has not independently verified these efforts or the details of the compensation offer. DNHR stresses that an offer of compensation does not, by itself, establish responsibility for the killing. Actions attributed to individuals must not be used to assign collective responsibility to a village or ethnic community. DNHR calls for a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the circumstances of the killing and identify those responsible. Available evidence should be preserved, witnesses interviewed, and the safety of the victim’s family and anyone providing information ensured. Measures should also be taken to prevent reprisals. This report remains preliminary pending verification of the exact date and time, the victim’s details, and the sequence of events, as well as the collection of any relevant medical records or incident reports. #Sudan #SouthDarfur #Kas #HumanRights

The Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR) received information alleging that a force affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces #RSF arrested businessman Abdullah Ismail, known as “Pakistani,” aged 44, in Al-Nahda neighbourhood on the evening of 9 October 2026. DNHR has not independently verified the arrest. According to the information received, Abdullah Ismail was allegedly transferred to Daqrees Prison in South Darfur State. The source further alleged that his arrest followed his refusal to sell his home in Al-Nahda neighbourhood to a person described as the office director of Abdel Rahim Dagalo, the RSF’s deputy commander. DNHR has not independently verified these allegations, the identity or role of the alleged prospective buyer, or the circumstances of the reported transfer. The available information also does not establish whether he has been able to contact his family or obtain legal representation. DNHR calls on the authority responsible for his detention to disclose his whereabouts and legal status, ensure his safety and humane treatment, and provide him with access to his family and legal counsel.
