#ONStorm #ONwx ❄️ From 30°C Heat to First Snowfall of the Season Possible This Weekend! Please put down the pitchforks… because you might need a snow brush instead this weekend! 👀 After enjoying summer-like temperatures approaching 30°C earlier this week, we are now closely monitoring the potential for the first lake-effect flurries of the season in parts of Southern Ontario this weekend. A system is expected to bring widespread light to moderate rainfall across Southern Ontario on Friday. Farther north, some of that precipitation could fall as wet snow, particularly north of Sudbury. However, as the system moves out of our region late Friday, it is expected to usher in a blast of colder air, with temperatures dropping to near or slightly below freezing overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Combined with lingering moisture from the departing system, these colder temperatures, especially the much colder air higher up in the atmosphere, could create favourable conditions for lake-effect precipitation to develop off the Great Lakes. Current indications suggest that some of this precipitation could transition to wet snow after midnight, with flurries potentially continuing into Saturday morning. The best chance of seeing lake-effect snow appears to be in the higher elevations northwest of the GTA, including the Dundalk Highlands and Blue Mountain areas south of Georgian Bay. We could also see some scattered flurries across parts of Central and Eastern Ontario as the departing system pulls away. Now, before you start digging out the snow shovels, we aren’t expecting much of this snow to actually accumulate. The ground is still relatively warm, which should limit how much snow can stick. That said, temperatures could be cold enough for a light dusting of snow in some areas, particularly across higher elevations during the early morning hours on Saturday. There is still some uncertainty regarding exactly where the rain could transition to snow and whether temperatures will be cold enough for any accumulation. It’s certainly quite the turnaround from the summer-like heat we experienced just a few days ago! We’ll have more details in a full forecast as we get closer to the weekend. Stay tuned! - Brennen ——— Thank you to our sponsor, Xolar: Energy For The Future! ☀️⚡️ As the leaves start changing, it’s also a reminder that winter isn’t too far away. Spotted on satellite: an otter eddy right off Bodega Bay! While it sounds like a fluffy "sharknado", an otter eddy is actually a type of mesolow (small low pressure center)! Offshore winds interact with complex coastal terrain to create this cyclonic coastal eddy. #CAwx

❄️ Update on the snow potential 👇 First flakes of the season continue to look possible this weekend! As our strong storm departs tomorrow, it will usher in cold air behind it Lake Effect snow/ flurries are possible across parts of the snowbelts and Central #Ontario, maybe the #GTA as well Temps will be below freezing which would support some accumulations on elevated surfaces but roadways will likely remain bare (unless precip rates are heavy enough) Don't worry, this is only a tease...we warm right back up for Sunday and into next week! Will continue to monitor and update! #OnWX #ONStorm
❄️ Snow next weekend anyone? 😅 Big cool down is expected next weekend and it *may* come with the first flakes of the season for some A strong cold front is being modeled to push through Southern #Ontario late next week and behind it, overnight lows will be cold enough to support flurries if Lake Effect bands set up Accumulations are not likely at this point but the first flakes are certainly possible Will update! #OnWX #ONStorm

Happy 20th anniversary to the craziest snowstorm to ever hit Buffalo! I remember watching the rain mix with wet snow on the afternoon of the 12th and thinking how crazy it was. I then watched as it slowly turned to wet snow, and then it started sticking to the ground! I didn't think it was possible to have substantial snowfall that early across the lower elevations of WNY, but here we were! The snowfall intensified throughout the afternoon into the evening hours and didn't stop until the next morning. I remember going for a walk with my family at the time to "take in" the devastation before our eyes. Power transformers and trees were snapping like toothpicks all over the area. It literally felt like a war zone. No other meteorological event that I've experienced has come close to the devastation of that night. We lost power for over 2 weeks and over 90% of the trees in the area were either damaged or completely destroyed. I put together a video of some of the damage from that day. Does anyone remember that storm? Share your story!
