Pretty insane moment today where I watched a strike of lightning spark a massive grass fire.

All 3 ensembles show the coldest air of the season coming next weekend! The cold air is a lock, the chance of snow is to be determined!
The GFS is looking more on board today for the first flakes heading into next weekend. Looking like a real possibility with an early intrusion of the polar vortex. #ONStorm #ONwx

Here we see really gorgeous multi-colored aurora happening in Alkeevsky, Tatarstan, Russia. The geomagnetic latitude-equivalent of this in North America is around New York City, Boise or Chicago.

Well, this was NOT expected! Depending on the orientation of the Bz and assuming the field strength holds, we could see G3 or even G4-level storming from this event! It’s too early to say what is in store for North America, but I’d have everything prepared for tonight just in case.

Getting raked by the left eyewall. And now the water's coming up. #Hurricane #ISAIAS in Okaloosa Island #Florida

Hurricane #Isaias is legit still strengthening right now, latest recon pass has an extrapolated pressure reading of 951.5 and even more Category 4 supportive flight level wind barbs. Need to wait for our sonde to get a real pressure estimate, but I personally thought this would be up on the 960s or 970s by this point.
So right now both the NOAA and Air Force planes have found C4 support.
