1/ This is one of the grimmest stories I've done in #Russia. Since 2017, Russia has run a campaign of terror against Jehovah's Witnesses. It's one of the worst examples of oppression in the country, and maybe the most mysterious. Our new @ABC short film: abcn.ws/3ku5nZ4

We condemn a Russian court's sentencing of Jehovah's Witness Dmitriy Golik to seven years in prison and Aleksey Berchuk to eight years in prison -- a new record length in Russia's crackdown on the Jehovah’s Witnesses' peaceful religious practice.

It’s been over a year since Jehovah’s Witnesses could visit neighborhoods around El Paso and spread their message in person. Now, they’re managing by other ways but add that there’s been an increase of people who want to hear their message. trib.al/J35a3fW

For the faithful across the globe, the pandemic has meant time away from their fellow believers, including outreach programs. Jehovah's Witnesses have had to adjust with the limitations. @KimPassoth reports.

Russia officially banned the religious group in April 2017 and deemed it an "extremist organization," a designation the U.S. State Department has characterized as "wrong." rferl.org/a/30817399.html

Freedom of religion or belief is a fundamental human right. We call on Russia to meet its international obligations and cease its campaign to imprison Jehovah’s Witnesses.
#JehovahsWitness Gennady Shpakovsky was sentenced today to 6.5 years in prison for reading the Bible and collecting donations for his community. Russia must stop selectively prosecuting believers and let them practice their religion in peace. @mfa_russia
