What a difference a few days make! 🌊 As Hurricane Isaias approached, the beach looked wild—heavy surf, gray skies, and darker, cloudy water. Today, it’s a peaceful scene of gentle waves and the beautiful blue-green water beginning to return.
Strong winds and waves stir up sand and sediment, while cloud cover changes how the water looks. As the surf settles and sunshine returns, those brighter coastal colors shine again. Same beach, two very different moods! ☀️

8th Anniversary of Hurricane Michael — October 10, 2018: A Day the Forgotten Coast Will Never Forget
Eight years ago today, Hurricane Michael made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida, as a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 160 mph. Here are some remarkable facts about one of the most devastating storms in American history:
Hurricane Michael was one of only four hurricanes in recorded history to strike the contiguous United States at Category 5 strength.
At T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park on @30ECSB Cape San Blas, Michael’s powerful storm surge and waves carved a massive breach through the peninsula—approximately 1,000 feet wide and 7 feet deep—connecting the Gulf directly to St. Joseph Bay. The breach effectively cut the state park in half, temporarily transforming the northern wilderness area into an isolated island.
Michael holds the record as the most intense hurricane to make landfall in the United States during the month of October.
In Mexico Beach, the destruction was catastrophic. Of the town’s 1,692 buildings, 1,584 were damaged, including 809 reported destroyed. That’s approximately 94% of the town’s buildings damaged or destroyed.
The storm also produced extraordinary coastal flooding. In Port St. Joe, the U.S. Geological Survey documented a high-water mark exceeding 20 feet above a standardized elevation reference known as NAVD88, illustrating the extreme water levels associated with the storm.
With a minimum central pressure of 919 millibars, Michael was the third-most intense hurricane to strike the contiguous United States by barometric pressure, trailing only the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane and Hurricane Camille in 1969.
Despite weakening after landfall, Michael remained an exceptionally powerful hurricane as it moved into southwestern Georgia, bringing devastating winds and widespread destruction. The National Weather Service described Michael as Georgia's first major hurricane impact since 1898.
In recognition of the catastrophic loss of life and approximately $25.5 billion in damage caused by the storm, the World Meteorological Organization officially retired the name Michael from the rotating list of Atlantic hurricane names.
Michael’s powerful winds snapped, uprooted, or otherwise damaged trees across nearly 3 million acres of forestland in Florida alone.
Eight years later, Hurricane Michael’s scars remain etched into the landscape and the memories of those who experienced it. Its devastation serves as a lasting reminder of nature’s extraordinary power and the resilience of the communities that endured it.

Be careful driving.
Highway 98 has a lot of water on it in certain areas. This is the area between Hickory St and Culver’s.
The area in front of Chick-fil-A in Callaway has a lot of water in front of the restaurant too.

On July 24, 2026, Jehovah’s Witnesses began attending their 3 Day Eternal Happiness Regional Convention in @CityofTLH at the Alfred "Al" Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center at @FAMU_1887.
During this year’s convention, enjoy videos that transport you to places Jesus lived and preached, and how he taught what leads to true happiness.
On Friday, the Featured Drama called The Good News According To Jesus: Episode 4 “This Is Why I Have Come” was presented.
On Saturday, The Good News According to Jesus: Episode 5 “Astounded at His Way of Teaching” will be shown.
Finally, on Sunday, The Good News According to Jesus: Episode 6 “Are You the Coming One?” will be presented.
To create The Good News According To Jesus series, 75,347 square feet of historically accurate film sets were constructed in Australia for the filming of this video series. In total, the series will eventually include 18 episodes—an estimated 1,000 minutes—portraying Jesus’ life and teachings.
Attendees of the convention will listen to speakers from a variety of backgrounds and will watch many short-length videos designed to supplement the talks.
The conventions will draw people primarily from Northwest and North Florida to parts of Southern Alabama and parts of Southern Georgia.
The public is invited to attend. The conventions are free and no collections are taken.

Rough waters but the beach nourishment project has allowed for the protection of the houses and townhouses. 🙌
The beach appears to be holding up well against the surge.
The waves crashing against the rock revetment is resulting in some water washing over the rocks onto the road. Please be careful driving along this section of Cape San Blas.

“Environmental stewardship is an important consideration in all of our construction and development projects,” Hohl stated in response to a question about whether or not data centers are supported by the leadership of Jehovah’s Witnesses. “For example, when building our World Headquarters, located adjacent to this property, we worked closely with environmental experts and regulatory agencies to protect local natural resources, preserve wetlands and wildlife habitats, and minimize the project’s environmental impact.”

3/11/26 Update: St. Joseph Peninsula Coastal Structures & Beach Nourishment Project
From MRD Associates, Inc.:
The beach nourishment contractor has mobilized to the site with the submerged pipelines installed on the beach near the staging area at 3967 Cape San Blas road.
This month, the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Port St. Joe (technically in St. Joe Beach) completed some simple but beautiful renovations.
The updated auditorium provides a modern, warm and inviting space.
In addition to the refreshed interior, several new portraits now hang throughout the building.
These artworks reflect the global nature of the Christian ministry of Jehovah’s Witnesses, portraying individuals from many different cultures and parts of the world.
Two of the portraits also highlight the Bible’s comforting promise of the resurrection hope and life on a Paradise earth.
One portrait reflects the Biblical account found at Exodus chapter 15.
The building was originally constructed in 1990. Before that, the congregation met at a Kingdom Hall located in Oak Grove. Since 1990, the building has undergone more than one interior renovation.
