The only thing I want to come out of any of these discussions is if someone makes the decision to short-staff a shift (whether they're a manager, clinician, or whomever), that they take responsibility in the event that things go wrong due to overworked clinical teams
Big message from Mackey, Penny Dash and Govt to NHS leaders is they are backing off regulation & control - trust people more. Given lack of robust regulation of managers, very little in way of standards/training, are we confident calibre of management is up to it? #nhsconfedexpo

🚨 It's crazy that the NHS has told 350 doctors training in anaesthesia that the NHS has no job for them after 3 years training. At the same time we have massive shortages of, you guessed it, anaesthetists. These self-defeating bottlenecks defy logic. Statement from @RCoANews

this bma messaging really highlights the rampant classism woven into the fabric of medical culture and the fact that many doctors have no interest in worker liberation or solidarity - they’re just annoyed we can’t give ourselves raises like bankers do

Junior doctors have voted YES to strike action in England. This is a giant step forward for junior doctors and #PayRestoration. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard for this. Keep an eye out for next steps. #BMADoctorsVoteYes bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/jun…

For anyone who isn't a medic looking at these graphs (and crucial that the general public knows this) - the orange line remaining flat is why it takes many months to see a specialist doctor. The govt can bleat all they like about training more doctors - but posts are static
These graphs are horrifying - do we have a duty to make applicants to medical school aware of this? Applications per post compared with posts available - obviously not controlling for multiple apps, very quick plots - but deeply concerning.

This email suggest that medical students, who pay tuition fees, should work for free in the holiday period to undermine striking healthcare workers, because it will be "interesting". Shockingly poor.
Medical students, please don't let yourselves get guilted into doing clinical work over your holidays because of the strikes. It won't be an interesting experience. Medical schools/hospitals should be ashamed for suggesting it. Enjoy your Christmas and time off! From @MedReddit

Europe is on fire, meanwhile Kylie Jenner is taking 15 minute trips in her private jet. I could recycle everything, buy all my clothes second hand, compost and grow my own food for the rest of my life and it wouldn’t even begin to offset the footprint from one of her flights.

Today, on the Platinum Jubilee, I’m thinking of the 72 people who died at Grenfell. I’m thinking of the people shaking with the fear of being deported to Rwanda in two weeks’ time. I’m thinking of

On a survey of all male surgeons I know, a vast majority of them have partners who work part time:don’t work (I know some who’s partners do, but majority don’t) Of female surgeons I know all their partners work full time Let’s think about what this means for women in surgery?

Happy #LGBTHM22 everyone. Trans & Non Binary people have been working in NHS for many yrs but yet rarely have our efforts been celebrated or recognised. Let's start to put that right this history month by taking a moment to celebrate your Trans & Non-Binary colleagues

I'm seeing an emerging narrative that the NHS has coped. It definitely hasn't for too many patients and we shouldn't gloss over that. The NHS doesn't implode, it just fails many more individuals and their experience is missed at the system view level.

We’re still seeing young, healthy unvaccinated patients dying of a now preventable disease. THAT clip will do big numbers. Thousands of vaccine hesitant people will see it and make a choice that may well kill them. Its impact is unimaginable I don’t have a joke for that today

"This is sometimes said by people who have no understanding of health at all... and when they say it, it's usually because they want to make a political point." Prof. Chris Whitty responds to concerns that the NHS is prioritising Covid other serious health issues such as cancer.

People in highly vaccinated countries (including with boosters) framing a new variant of concern by the risk it poses to *them* and not the risk to unvaccinated people in the Global South is peak pandemic inequity. That framing is exactly why this is happening in the first place
