Our 2024–2026 Special Report is out. We are in an exciting new era for the Georgetown Center for the Constitution. In the last two years, here's just some of what we've been up to: 175 legal scholars engaged 150 law clerks trained 80 judges convened 52 events hosted 5 meetings with U.S. Supreme Court Justices 4 new programs, from Research Fellows to Legal Philosophy & Constitutional Theory None of this happens without our small but mighty team, which punches well above its weight. It has been a privilege to build on the remarkable foundation laid by @RandyEBarnett as the Center's Founder, to work alongside @lsolum, our longtime collaborator, and to open a new chapter with a community this extraordinary. Take a look at our full report here: georgetowncenterforconstitut… @GUConstitution @GeorgetownLaw

ICYMI: The Supreme Court shot down the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals’ writ of mandamus to the FCC, calling it “inappropriate under the circumstances....Our system of separation of powers does not allow the Judiciary to meddle in ‘the workings of a coordinate branch of the Government’ in this manner.” @WSJ Editorial Board: “Maybe the Justices wouldn’t have to use their emergency docket as often if lower courts didn’t keep committing acts of legal insubordination.”

Had a headache before class this week, so I took two ibuprofen. Except they weren’t ibuprofen. They were two of these. Headache: gone. Also gone: clear thinking for the next eight hours. I made it through class, though many of my sentences did not. I am not a fan. My students, on the other hand, were big fans. In my defense, the label is very subtle.

This is the SG team’s next investigation. We will hold big tech companies accountable when they endanger children.
BREAKING: Our office has launched an investigation into TikTok because parents deserve to know what their kids are being exposed to and how these platforms may be putting them at risk. We won’t tolerate companies that profit from addictive design at the expense of kids’ mental health. We will never stop fighting to protect young consumers online.

Thrilled to see this published! I really enjoyed working on this project and learned a lot from researching it. Thanks to the editors at @NwULRev for their work in bringing the article to print.
In “Originalism’s General-Law Turn,” Profs. @NinaVarsava (@WisconsinLaw) & @BWatson_theory (@UIllinoisLaw) argue that general law depended on morality, so identifying constitutional law grounded in general law requires applied moral reasoning. (1/2).

Here is an extended cut of my interviews with Justice Alito in his New Jersey hometown and at the Supreme Court. We cover a lot of ground, including Dobbs, Obergefell and a decision of his that led to an outcome he hates. youtube.com/watch?v=3Yr4LHGE…
