Imagine if everyone who wanted The Winds of Winter to come out faster started just writing chapters themselves and sending them to George RR Martin and asking him to include them. That's what it's like being an open source maintainer right now.

Exactly. OSMF lets maintainers activate procurement via a simple EULA on official binaries. Source stays fully FOSS and free to build; the fee hits only revenue-generating orgs above the $10k threshold. Individuals stay free. WiX already proves it works at scale with hundreds of sponsors. Solid complement to automatic registry royalties.

So, I dug into my mistake more tonight. The RPL is truly a piece of work. It weaponizes OSS. That is its purpose. It's the mirror image of the OSMF. It is amazing. It absolutely has no place in a library.

This is a common misconception. Maintainers don't need _contributions_. They need _contributors_ (devs who stick around to care for their contributions) and _community_ (people who help others using the software).
Contributions alone are simply more work for maintainers.

DHH is a multimillionaire. He's on a different level on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. He's also famous for being a FU-maintainer.
Nothing wrong with any of that. But know who people are before taking their advice.
You may find a multimillionaire's reality doesn't match yours.

:) The funny part is, I pointed out exactly those issues with my lawyer drafting the OSMF EULA. They had to be addressed.
But I don't understand where one gets the audacity to claim I don't know what I'm doing. Sure, question, "How did you solve X?" But to assume I'm the joker?

Yes! All correct! The OSMF is written to be F/OSS+OSI compliant.
The OSMF tries to address the Open Source Success Paradox: when a project becomes so successful, it overwhelms its maintainers.
The OSMF is designed to offset the burn-out these maintainers hit. It worked for me.

No. It's a use of a legal framework that has been used in software for decades. It is why my project has 170 new companies posting the Maintenance Fee in 9 months.
They don't pay because they want to (because they won't). They pay because they are required to, by the OSMF EULA.

Honestly, we should celebrate an OSS maintainer putting their foot down, saying "you know what, I'd like to make my OSS project that is heavily used commercially to be sustainable the long-term, and not burn out."
This is what @robmen is attempting to do, and it's great.
