One of our favorite topics came up in Indiana this week...
Rockport residents are considering whether to convert their #coal plant to a #nuclear facility once it retires in 2028. We're biased, but that sounds like a really good idea to us ✅👇

Indiana's Advanced Nuclear Ready Communities program supports local communities that are interested in hosting new nuclear plants. The program is now ready to receive applications. Article link in reply.
The program "empowers local communities with a strategic road map to clear the way for clean energy investment."
Indiana has no nuclear plants.

Ontario is helping shape the future of nuclear energy in Canada and beyond.
Great to see @washingtonpost Intelligence recognize Ontario’s first-mover advantage in SMR deployment.
Credit to Minister @Sflecce for his leadership and to @opg for turning ambition into action.

Global oil supply chains are reordering. Expect increased US/Americas production as Middle East barrels, while low-cost, become less reliable. Simultaneously, China and others invest heavily in alternatives. #OilMarket #EnergyTransition #GlobalEconomy

Saudi Arabia is planning to ramp up pipeline capacity by 40% to avoid the Strait of Hormuz, after the kingdom leaned heavily on an existing cross-country conduit to export oil during the Iran war.
As the kingdom struggles to fend off almost daily attacks on its energy and civilian infrastructure, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said it aims to boost pipeline capacity away from the Persian Gulf to 10 million barrels of crude a day within two to three years.

We’re acting to protect vulnerable families, ensure fair treatment and give consumers clearer routes to compensation when things go wrong.

Installed capacity does mean use or emissions but what this really shows is that grid planners and the overall market know they you need natural gas capacity to support buildout of renewables (plus batteries).
From @billmckibben, this is the key reason that the permitting reform bill is likely a net negative for climate.

The treated water Massachusetts won't let Holtec discharge: ~800,000 gallons containing less than 12 curies of tritium—about as much as a self illuminating tritium exit sign (~11.5 Ci).
Math: 12 Ci in 790,000 gallons = ~148,000 Bq/L. Using the ICRP 72 adult ingestion-dose coefficient (1.8×10⁻¹¹ Sv/Bq), that's 0.0027 mSv/L. A single-view chest X-ray is ~0.02 mSv, equivalent to drinking about 2 gallons of this water undiluted.
The ban is pure theater. It needlessly makes nuclear more expensive and slows the transition to a cleaner electricity grid. A federal judge struck down New York's similar ban in 2025 as preempted by federal law, though New York appealed. Massachusetts relies on a different law, so we'll see how that plays out. Meanwhile, the lawyers will keep cashing the checks!

A supply-gap chart is NOT a forecast. It describes what WOULD HAVE TO HAPPEN for projected demand to be met, not WHAT WILL HAPPEN.
The market adjusts through price, substitution, recycling or demand destruction.
It is about #incentives, not a prediction of outcomes.

Regarding small and advanced nuclear reactors, journalists of a certain bent often write:
"a still largely untested and unproven technology in the United States"
I have my own slant.
"a rapidly developing technology that is being systematically tested and proven ready for commercial markets"
