Saskatchewan’s plan is significant because it looks beyond a single project and sets out a long-term vision for nuclear development in the province.
We recently had the opportunity to hear directly from Minister @JHarrisonMLA about Saskatchewan’s Nuclear Pathway at Pioneering New Nuclear in Western Canada, and this announcement gives further definition to that pathway.
With a goal of at least 2,600 MW of nuclear generation by 2050, including both SMRs and large nuclear, Saskatchewan is laying the groundwork for a sustained nuclear program that can support energy security and long-term economic growth.
As one of the world’s leading uranium-producing jurisdictions, Saskatchewan already plays an important role in the global nuclear industry. Developing nuclear generation at home would add another important dimension to that leadership and further strengthen Canada’s nuclear capabilities. @SmrForum

Yesterday, I joined industry, labour, municipal and Indigenous partners to outline Saskatchewan's roadmap for delivering energy security through nuclear power.
By building on our uranium advantage, skilled workforce and growing nuclear expertise, we're taking action to strengthen our energy security, attract investment and build a strong nuclear future right here at home.
See what one of our industry partners had to say about Saskatchewan's nuclear future.

I was honoured to support the Canadian student delegation participating in the @OECD_NEA International Mentoring Workshop in Bucharest, Romania, focused on inspiring the next generation of nuclear leaders.
The workshop brought together approximately 50 secondary-school students from Canada, Romania and Bulgaria, alongside national and international mentors from across the nuclear sector.
We are grateful to @NRCan for its support of the program and of Canadian student participation in this important international initiative.
My sincere thanks to the teams at the @OECD_NEA and Ministry of Energy Nuclear and Radioactive Waste Agency of Romania (ANDR).
Supporting the next generation of nuclear leaders is an important part of strengthening Canada’s long-term nuclear capability and its connections with the international nuclear community.

Prime Minister @stephenharper brought what could best be described as a statesman’s strategic compass to the discussion, reflecting on how the past two decades have shaped Canada, the lessons learned through a period of profound economic and geopolitical change, and what it will take to position the country for global leadership in the years ahead.

One of the defining moments of the third edition of Pioneering New Nuclear in Western Canada was our featured leadership dialogue with the Right Honourable @stephenharper , 22nd Prime Minister of Canada, moderated by the Honourable The Hon. @TonyclementCPC ,Chair of the @SmrForum Advisory Board.
The conversation, Canada’s Strategic Future: Energy Security, Economic Competitiveness and Nation-Building, looked beyond individual projects and technologies to a broader question: what will it take for Canada to position itself as a global leader in a more competitive and strategically complex world?

The discussion explored what Canada can draw from that experience as it works to strengthen its competitiveness, attract investment, build major projects, reinforce energy and economic security, and translate its considerable resources and capabilities into sustained global leadership.
Nuclear energy formed an important part of that broader conversation. Not as a standalone sector, but as part of the infrastructure, industrial capacity, technological capability, and long-term strategic thinking that will shape Canada’s future.
Coming immediately after his participation at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto, the discussion provided a timely bridge between the national investment agenda and the broader question of how Canada can build, compete, and lead.
We were honoured to welcome Prime Minister Harper to Edmonton and grateful to Hon.Tony Clement for leading a thoughtful and substantive conversation.

A privilege to meet Canada’s 22nd Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. @stephenharper, at the @SmrForum in Edmonton today. At a pivotal moment for our country, his message was clear: Canada must become more competitive and self-reliant to protect our sovereignty.
By building major projects, expanding nuclear and small modular reactors, and getting our energy out to new markets, we can strengthen our economy and make Canada a global energy superpower. #SMRForum26 #TeamCanada 🇨🇦⚛️

Great to catch up with former Alberta Premier @jkenney at the @SmrForum here in Edmonton.
As Premier, he brought Alberta into the partnership with Ontario, Saskatchewan, and New Brunswick to develop small modular reactors. He’s always understood that Canada’s energy resources are a source of enormous national strength, and nuclear energy and SMRs will play an important role in our future.
So thanks again, Jason, for your leadership and for continuing to champion a strong, united #TeamCanada approach to energy. By working together, combining Ontario’s nuclear expertise with the energy, resources, and talent of Western Canada, we’ll build Canada into a global energy superpower. 🇨🇦⚛️

Great discussion today at the @SmrForum in Edmonton on Canada’s next chapter in new nuclear.
Under the leadership of Premier @fordnation and Minister @Sflecce, Ontario is showing what it takes to get nuclear built, deploying the first grid-scale SMR in the G7, refurbishing our nuclear fleet under budget and ahead of schedule, and strengthening the Canadian nuclear supply chain and workforce.
Now, we have a real opportunity to take Ontario’s experience and build on it right across Canada, with a sustained national nuclear strategy that includes SMRs.
Thanks to @EntCanada vice president @MitchWDavidson, @TD_Canada Securities managing director Steve Akman, @MZConsulting president Milt Caplan, and the Hon. Dustin Duncan, co-chair of @Canadians4CANDU for an excellent panel discussion. #SMRForum26 #TeamCanada #NewNuclear ⚛️🇨🇦
