Half of the new assistant professor job postings in the social sciences are looking for someone who researches AI. Sending the message that, to even have a shot at landing a TT job, you have to have correctly predicted what will be hot 5-7 years from when you started grad school.

There’s an academic version of enshittification that really amounts to the nature of the work people are requested or made to do just keeps getting shittier.
What once was predominately scholarship and teaching and related, is now basically anything and everything just bc.
Dear @calstate : A 3% raise is not "competitive compensation."
The last general raise for CSU faculty was more than two years ago.
Since then, inflation has been 6.5% and CSU tuition has increased more than 12%.

Mainstream academic publishers are leeches.
“Adjusted for inflation, annual spending [on APCs] quadrupled from $0.9 billion in 2019 to $3.7 billion in 2025, with >85% concentrated among a few large publishers.”

Sample 2: 77% White
Do we not see the irony in asking majority-white participants about harmful use of terms like powwow, cakewalk, and "sold down the river???"

One part of “enrollment management”— keeping students enrolled — is often framed via benevolent motivations.
But there’s also a lot of paternalism and loss of student agency, esp bc keeping students enrolled is not manipulation free. The desired end of those w/power is explicit.
Thank you @SenCervantes for ensuring that @calstate classes are taught by PEOPLE!
Students learn best from HUMAN educators. AI is not a replacement.
That's why we sponsored #SB928 with @CFA_United to ensure that AI NEVER replaces a human educator in our university and college classrooms.
Thank you to our labor champion @SenCervantes for authoring this legislation and @CAGovernor Newsom for signing this bill into law to protect educators and students!

University leadership: We stand ready to support our faculty as they confront the disruptions & uncertainty caused by AI.
Faculty: Great! We'll need smaller class sizes, especially for incoming students and—
University leadership: Lol, no. We meant like subscriptions to Claude.

According to the NCAA, there are “less than 10” transgender athletes competing in collegiate athletics and there are 0 transgender athletes competing in American professional sports.
Transgender athletes are exceedingly rare and yet they are being scapegoated to convince people that a tiny, vulnerable minority is a national emergency—all while ignoring the actual violence, discrimination, and inequality women face every day.
There are more active Ku Klux Klan chapters than trans athletes in America.
There are more states where child marriage is legal than trans athletes in America.
There have already been more school shootings in 2026 than trans athletes in America.
There are more antigovernment extremist groups in almost every single state than trans athletes in America.
The average salary for CSU's lecturer faculty is $76,000.
Almost all have master's or doctorates.

Wondering if college is worth it? The data says yes.
In California, workers with a bachelor’s degree earn a median annual wage of $96,000, about double that of workers with only a high school diploma.

Every morning, I wake up and read the obituaries. If my name isn’t in there, I have breakfast. Then, I complete yet another university-mandated training of some sort. This has been my life for 17 years.

If you start your press statement with
“We respect our unionized contract faculty, but”
You do not in fact respect your unionized contract faculty

Inevitably, I always had students who couldn’t afford the books for class. Hell, I used to be that student. So I make it clear from day one that I believe in “education by any means necessary.” Do whatever you gotta do. My ancestors were book thieves, and thank god they were.
"Strategically focusing resources" means investing in @calstate STUDENTS, FACULTY, and STAFF. Not fattening up already-bloated executive salaries.
Invest in the classroom, not the boardroom.
I was honored to join @UCprez Milliken and @CalCommColleges Chancellor @sonyachristian to testify before the CA Assembly Budget Subcommittee #3 on Education Finance regarding the CSU’s budget priorities.
The CSU is prepared to strategically focus the resources entrusted to us.
It's been a great couple of days on the picket line with
@IBTlocal2010. Keep it going!
@CSUdrG Get your priorities straight and respect the trades workers who keep our campuses running.
