A year ago, I started doing daily generative music studies for our piece in the show.

The VALLEY renderer in Cycles is based on a similar fractal noise displacement approach as SHOAL but with a lower degree of displacement, warping the grid into a maplike topology

The SHOAL renderer in Cycles is the renderer that creates the biggest deformation of the underlying grid, warping it into 3d space. All the same automata processes are playing out but the grid has been bent and folded into floating hills and valleys.
