SEDC Begins Intervention Programme for Flood-Affected Communities in the South East Following consultations with state governments across the region, the South East Development Commission (SEDC) has commenced a regional intervention to support communities affected by flooding and other climate-related disasters. The first delivery took place in Anambra State on Friday, 16 October, with relief materials, including food items, mattresses, sanitary pads and diapers, handed over to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in the presence of the Deputy Governor. The intervention is intended to complement the State Government’s ongoing relief efforts, with distribution to continue in other affected states across the region. Beyond immediate relief, SEDC will pursue longer-term climate adaptation and resilience measures under its South-East Climate Resilience and Green Infrastructure Programme (SECRGIP). In collaboration with state governments, NiMet and other relevant agencies, this will include identifying and mapping disaster-prone communities and strengthening regional preparedness for future climate and ecological challenges. Through this integrated approach, SEDC is addressing urgent humanitarian needs while working towards a more climate-resilient South East.

Our work in Nomeh Unateze is only the beginning. In this conversation with ARISE News, our Executive Director for Natural Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Clifford Ogbede, discusses the South East Agro-Development Programme, our pilot project now underway in Enugu State, and the broader SEDC agenda. From agriculture and industrialisation to infrastructure and investment, we are working to translate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible economic outcomes across the South East. For agriculture, the goal goes beyond land clearing. We are building a model around mechanised production, aggregation, processing and private-sector participation that can be refined and scaled across the region. Nomeh Unateze is the first step. An insightful conversation worth watching. #SEDC #AgroDevelopment #Enugu #RenewedHope

40. Grateful for every year, every lesson, every person who believed before there was evidence to believe in. Public service is not about comfort. It is about responsibility. It means staying focused on the work, especially when the noise gets loud. I am grateful to my family, friends, and the many people who have walked this journey with me. I am particularly grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for his birthday message and continued confidence in a new generation of public servants committed to building a better Nigeria. At 40, the work is only just beginning. Grateful for the past. Focused on the future. The work continues. MOII

Nigeria's healthcare system continues to face significant challenges due to fragmented patient records, making it difficult for healthcare providers to access complete medical histories and deliver coordinated care. Health Vault NG, a startup based in Enugu, is changing this narrative by developing a secure digital health records platform that empowers patients to own and control their medical information while allowing authorized healthcare providers seamless access when needed. As part of the inaugural South East Venture Capital Program (SEVCP) cohort, the startup is building foundational health-tech infrastructure that can improve care coordination, reduce inefficiencies, and contribute to better healthcare outcomes across the country. #SEVCP #HealthTech #DigitalHealth #Innovation #SouthEastNigeria

Earlier this week in Enugu, the South East Venture Capital Programme @SEVCP_SEDC brought together founders, investors, development finance institutions, banks, and state governments around a shared objective: Building a stronger innovation and investment ecosystem for the South East. Most importantly, we deployed capital. Not promises. Not communiqués. From over 1,200 applications, 25 startups secured investment through a transparent, independent, and merit-based process. For many regions globally, venture capital is an established part of the economic landscape. For the South East, this represents the deliberate creation of an institutional pathway for innovators and entrepreneurs to access growth capital. To the founders selected, this moment belongs to you. Your ideas, resilience, and ambition earned you a place in this cohort. We were honoured to receive the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Taiwo Oyedele, as the President’s representative. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the South East and highlighted over ₦1.3 trillion in strategic infrastructure investments across the region, including major road and rail projects that will strengthen regional connectivity and competitiveness. I remain grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his support and for the administration’s commitment to innovative financing, entrepreneurship, and regional development. My appreciation also goes to our partners, investors, ecosystem collaborators, mentors, judges, and every founder who participated. This is not the end of a programme. It is the beginning of a pipeline. Step by step, we continue to build. MOII #SEDC #SEIC #SEVCP #RenewedHope #RegionalDevelopment @SEDCgov @SEVCP_SEDC – at Enugu, Nigeria
