The South East Development Commission appeared before the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission yesterday as part of the National Assembly's constitutional oversight process and welcomes every opportunity to account for its stewardship of public resources. Several issues from today's session have attracted public commentary. The Commission has addressed them directly: what the Abuja office expenditure actually covers, what "implied expenditure" means and why that money has not left our accounts, and how available funds have been deployed to build an institution and advance regional projects in the absence of any capital budget release. SEDC Begins Intervention Programme for Flood-Affected Communities in the South East Following consultations with state governments across the region, the South East Development Commission (SEDC) has commenced a regional intervention to support communities affected by flooding and other climate-related disasters. The first delivery took place in Anambra State on Friday, 16 October, with relief materials, including food items, mattresses, sanitary pads and diapers, handed over to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in the presence of the Deputy Governor. The intervention is intended to complement the State Government’s ongoing relief efforts, with distribution to continue in other affected states across the region. Beyond immediate relief, SEDC will pursue longer-term climate adaptation and resilience measures under its South-East Climate Resilience and Green Infrastructure Programme (SECRGIP). In collaboration with state governments, NiMet and other relevant agencies, this will include identifying and mapping disaster-prone communities and strengthening regional preparedness for future climate and ecological challenges. Through this integrated approach, SEDC is addressing urgent humanitarian needs while working towards a more climate-resilient South East.

Agriculture is more than food. It is an opportunity to grow local economies, create jobs and build more resilient communities. The South East Agro-Development Programme (SEADP) is aligned with the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda and focused on strengthening food production, supporting farmers and developing agricultural value chains across the region. Through investment in agricultural infrastructure, mechanisation, skills development and value-chain development, the programme is designed to unlock the region’s agricultural potential and support broader economic growth #SEADP #SouthEastVision2050 #RegionalDevelopment #RenewedHopeAgenda

Do you recall the South East Vision 2050 Stakeholder Forum? Earlier this year, more than 2,000 stakeholders came together to shape a shared vision for the future of South East Nigeria. Agriculture and food security were key parts of that conversation. Stakeholders spoke about the need to unlock the region’s agricultural potential, develop productive land, reduce the cost of farming and build an ecosystem that can deliver food security and economic opportunity. The South East Agro-Development Programme is a response to that conversation. Stay tuned as we take you through the journey from conversation to implementation. #SEDC #SEV2050 #RenewedHopeAgenda #AgroDevelopment #FoodSecurity #Agriculture

The South East Development Commission (SEDC), in partnership with the Enugu State Government, has flagged off the South East Agro-Development Programme with the commencement of a 200-hectare integrated agricultural development project in Nomeh Unateze, Nkanu East. The initiative is designed to strengthen the South East's contribution to Nigeria's food security by increasing productive capacity, supporting farmers, creating jobs and building stronger agricultural value chains through production, mechanisation, processing, skills development and market access. More than establishing a farm, the project is about creating a replicable development model that can connect communities to modern agriculture and inform similar interventions across the five states of the South East. As Nigeria advances the Renewed Hope Agenda, SEDC is working with state governments and other stakeholders to translate national priorities into practical, measurable development across the region. #SEDC #RenewedHope #SouthEastAgroDevelopment #FoodSecurity #RebuildingOurLegacy

The South East Development Commission invites the general public to the official groundbreaking of its flagship agricultural initiative, the South East Agro-Development Programme. The pilot, implemented in partnership with the Enugu State Government, will establish an integrated agro-development facility at Nomeh, Nkanu East, Enugu State. This integrated model aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda on food security will bring together dairy, poultry, fisheries, fodder production, processing, mechanisation and practical agricultural training, while creating opportunities for smallholder farmers through an out-grower programme. The initiative is designed to serve as a model for a more productive, inclusive and sustainable agricultural economy in the South East. #SEDC #SouthEastAgroDevelopment #Agriculture #RebuildingLegacy

The South East Development Commission (SEDC) yesterday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Enugu State Government to advance the South East Agro Development Programme, a strategic regional initiative aimed at unlocking agricultural productivity, attracting private investment, strengthening food security, and creating sustainable economic opportunities across the South East. The signing formalises months of technical planning, stakeholder engagement, and field assessments undertaken jointly by SEDC and the Enugu State Government. It also marks the first state-level implementation partnership under a programme that will be expanded across all five South East states. Through strategic collaboration with state governments, the private sector, development partners, financial institutions, research institutions, and host communities, SEDC is laying the foundation for an integrated agro-industrial ecosystem that transforms agricultural potential into productive, investable, and inclusive economic growth. This is how we build a more prosperous South East: through deliberate planning, strong partnerships, and disciplined execution. #SEDC #RenewedHopeAgenda #SouthEast #Agriculture #FoodSecurity #Investment #EconomicDevelopment #RegionalDevelopment
