I wish I had met them for any other reason but I'm grateful the survivors in Sutherland Springs have allowed me into their lives for several years & impacted my life profoundly. Thankful to work with @SilviaElenaFF & @nataliathinks to share the survivors' stories once again.

But realistic because no one bothered to tell the photo desk or loop in a photographer about the trip and now the story is slotted as the Xmas day front page centerpiece and the editors are sitting Dec. 24th morning budget meeting wondering what photo has for “art” on the package

Reason number 1001 why local newspaper photojournalism is important and should be supported.
To me it was another day finding wild art of our community doing their Anne Arundel County thing.
To Annabeth and her dad, whom I met that day, it became a cherished memory.
Yay.
Thank you for an incredible conference!!!

Excellent thread here!
#Photojournalists 📸📹, what are the things u wish non-visual journalists (writers, editors, producers, broadcast reporters) working with you or in your newsroom knew about visual #journalism?
What should they know about collaborating with u and about the craft? #training @NPPA
Also, thank you to the survivors, victims' families and others directly impacted by mass shootings who have shared their stories & the photojournalists who have shared with me as well about a variety of topics recently. This work is only possible with your help!
For @NiemanReports, @lisakrantz, NF ’20, writes about her research about minimizing the harm journalists do to trauma survivors.

Made it through my first academic conference presentation! Thank you to the photojournalists who have talked with me about a very tough topic & my professors for their guidance! I still have a ton of work to do to finish it but I'm getting there.

I hope all news organizations will collaborate and this will become the norm. Not happy there are reasons for this coverage or tweet, but very happy to see it handled this way.
Agreed!

This is a truly brilliant way to engage and allow voices to be heard in a way that doesn’t inflict any additional trauma. Well done to you and your team!
