Last week, Uganda’s alcohol-control debate gained fresh momentum, from protecting young people and families to reclaiming productive working hours from early-morning drinking.
The message is clear: our country cannot build a healthy, productive and prosperous future while alcohol-related harm remains unchecked.
As we begin a new week, let us move from discussion to action. These are the most valuable hours for building livelihoods, strengthening families and advancing our country. Our morning hours should be devoted to education, employment, enterprise, innovation and community service not spent in bars.
To Uganda’s young people: your dreams deserve clear minds, healthy bodies and supportive environments. Do not allow alcohol marketing, peer pressure or the people's normalisation of drinking to convince you that alcohol is necessary for confidence, friendship or success.
Your energy, creativity and ambition are among Uganda’s greatest assets. Invest them in learning a skill, starting an enterprise, pursuing education, developing your talent and building meaningful relationships.
Parents, cultural and religious leaders, schools, employers, policymakers and communities must create environments that help young people make healthy choices. This includes regulating alcohol availability and marketing, enforcing age restrictions and providing genuine opportunities for education, employment, sports and recreation.
A productive Uganda begins with how we use today, especially our mornings.
With this fresh week, have purpose, progress and action towards a healthier and safer Uganda.
@ UAPA, we treasure you, we need you for #UgandaEmpya – at Uganda

The SDGs are not only found in reports, conferences or policy documents. They are in the young person creating work, the farmer adopting better practices, the teacher keeping a child in school, the health worker serving a community.
Across Uganda, people are doing things that make a difference. #MySDGsImpactStory is here to find those stories, put faces and numbers to the work, and show what progress looks like on the ground.
This is more than a campaign. It is a record of what Ugandans are doing to move their communities forward.
What is your #MySDGsImpactStory?

Leadership is about knowing when to hand over and creating space for fresh ideas and new direction.
At the 2026 AGM of @PolicyUganda , one message stood out: advancing alcohol control calls for a strong, united alliance of stakeholders committed to protecting public health. Alcohol harm cuts across nearly every Sustainable Development Goal.
We appreciate the outgoing leadership, welcome the new Executive Committee, and wish them every success. May we all remain committed to advancing alcohol control.

I’m always happy to remind us that ending #OnlineSexualViolence is everyone’s responsibility:
Ahead of the #16DaysOfActivism against gender based violence, we stood in solidarity for all women and girls hosted by @CEDOVIPuganda
This year’s global theme “UNiTE! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls and End Digital Violence reminds us that ending GBV demands sustained investment in prevention, justice, survivor centered services and feminist organizing.
Our regional call is “Reimagining Feminist Futures: Rising in Solidarity, Thriving Out of Crisis” celebrates the power of women to resist, organize and transform communities despite economic instability, digital harms and political repression. Across Uganda and the continent, women’s movements are shaping futures rooted in care, solidarity and justice.
This is a moment for all of us from government, civil society, media and communities to rise, invest and act. Violence must end and futures must thrive. #16Days @RaisingTeensUg2 @UgandaCRNN @GNB_Uganda @BebraveUganda @BeBraveGlobal @vowforgirls @GivingTuesdayUg @WezeshaGirls @touch_uganda @T4EduC @Educ_SportsUg @Mglsd_UG @sauti116 @Camfed

We spent our morning of the 28th April 2026 at Mpererwe @ChurchofUganda_ Primary School.
Combining hands, voices and efforts with Ms. Fiona from @sauti116 and Ms. Wendy Ruth from Kawempe Division's Probation Office, we shared with learners of the Primary 7 class about gender-based violence and what they can do in their capacity to fight it!
Our team led by @archerfrom1997 elaborated on the link between alcohol and gender-based violence as well as emphasize how important it is, that every child lives a life free from violence of any kind.
Our journey on the #NCDPP today, has been at Mpererwe @ChurchofUganda_ Primary School and as we always say, it's a platform for young people to discuss and address non-communicable diseases.
