"Congrats on your flying car!" said a partner this week. But Teslasuit ≠ Tesla Motors.
I get this a lot, so I thought to take a moment to explain who we are and where we DO share some similar interests to Tesla Motors:
@Tesla makes electric vehicles, AI and robots and their sister company, SpaceX makes rocket powered flight.
@Teslasuit makes a human performance intelligence platform powered by a full body wearable with electro-haptics, motion capture and biometric sensors.
✅ Were both inspired by Nikola Tesla and his work with electric currents. The man was a true genius!
✅ We’re both working in #robotics: they make @Tesla_Optimus, and we train humanoids and equip humans to teleoperate them.
✅ We’re both involved in #space: they make rockets (and now, rocket cars!) and we train astronauts.
✅ We’re both involved in #automotive and #energy: they make cars and batteries, and we train humans to operate safety in manufacturing and maintenance of energy systems.
It’s exciting to see what Tesla's been doing combining cars and rockets. It’ll be very interesting to see where we may work together in the future! 🤖 🧑🚀
Economist Enterprise ran its first Physical Al and Robotics Summit in London this Tuesday, bringing together a strong group of speakers covering the whole market, from the technology through to the use cases. It was great to reconnect with Bob Fine, of IVRHA, and Sara Filipčić and Roshni Lulla, of the Institute for Humane Robotics.
Two questions from the day have stayed with me:
The first is "How will deployment be handled?" The word came up repeatedly, and not in the sense of whether these machines work. In the sense of how they get from the factory where they are built to the site where they are meant to do the job, and who owns that journey.
The second sounds basic until you sit with it: "What is a robot?" We are drawn to humanoids, and at Teslasuit we have an obvious reason to be, since we build a suit shaped like a person. But a robot can walk on four (or more!) legs, or be small enough to travel through a bloodstream. Human flight started with feathers strapped to arms and ended with Airbus. So what is the final shape of a robot?
Let me know your thoughts on these questions in the comments.

Second visit to @ucl East in two weeks, this time a level further down the stack.
Great to meet Thomas George Thuruthel and Yasemin Bekiroğlu and hear about their work on tactile skin and robotic dexterity. Most electronic skins use separate sensors for pressure, heat and damage, embedded in patches. Theirs is one soft material where the whole surface is the sensor, reading how contact changes the electrical paths running through it. One membrane, many kinds of touch. On the dexterity side, the work is to turn those signals into judgement, so a dexterous robot can tell from touch alone whether a grasp will hold, and where its own hand is.
All of that stays on the robot. At @teslasuit we're developing what it would feel like on the other end of a teleoperation link: on a person. Teslasuit XR5 can stimulate the body wherever the robot interfaces with its surroundings (to prevent damaging the environment or itself!), and Teslaglove puts detailed sensation back on a human hand where it matters most.
We look forward to continuing these conversations, and seeing the resuts we can achieve together!

It was great to visit UCL's robotics lab at UCL East yesterday to hear about their work on robotic hands and tactile skin.
UCL Robotics is at the forefront of embodied Al and teleoperation research, and robotic hands and haptic gloves are solving the same problem from opposite ends.
They are giving a robot hand a sense of touch. We are building the other half of the loop: carrying that contact back to the human operator, and measuring what the human's hand actually did while doing the task. "Feeling what the robot feels" is useful for real time teleop but also to know when the robot hand is hallucinating. Touch delivers results when the visuals may hide the failures...
It was fun to let them try #Teslaglove haptics and talk through where the two sides meet.
Looking forward to continuing the conversation!

Artemis III just got its crew 🚀! The Moon is 384,400 km away. The gap between training on Earth and performing in space can feel even bigger.
Teslasuit has worked with NASA and the ES4Agency to understand how the body adapts and how technology can help close that gap.
