No...it shows a lack of understanding of what DC youth face right now- being told they basically can't do anything but go to school and go home. The Committee of Whole is holding its budget markup for the agencies under its purview. Below is a summary of some of the changes the committee is proposing.
The Committee report, linked below, analyzes requests, states concerns, makes revisions and offers recommendations.
ALT Increase individual DCPS school budgets by $4.8M to comply with Schools First in Budgeting Law, including 14 FTE positions at schools. Increase of $304,122 to fund three Coordinator positions at DCPS to support the New Heights program to support pregnant and parenting students.Increase of $161,000 for one Attorney position and $75,000 in non-personnel spending to sponsor permanent residency to fund H1-B visa recipients.Transfer of $1.2M from the Committee on Facilities for renovating Langdon Elementary School’s cafeteria and kitchen to address odor and rodent issues.Increase one-time operating by $1.2M to assist with funding St. Coletta Special Education Public Charter School.Funds the technology software needed for Board of Trustees training .Strike the proposed transfers of DCSAA to OSSE and maintain DCSAA as an independent agency.Increase of $300,000 in recurring funds in FY26 to fully fund the implementation of the School Improvement Amendment Act.
