This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, PAVE honors the rich histories, vibrant cultures, and lasting contributions of Indigenous communities whose legacies continue to shape our world.
Here in DC, we recognize that the land we call home is the ancestral homeland of the Nacotchtank, also known as the Anacostans, peoples. Our nation’s capital has also long served as a place where tribal leaders come together to advocate for their communities and protect their rights.
Today and every day, we celebrate the resilience, leadership, and powerful voices of Indigenous peoples as they continue to shape a brighter future for generations to come. 💜

Did you see the PISA scores that came out today? The US is falling behind other countries in reading, math, and science. BUT the good news is that we know DC students *continue to rise*. Let’s keep investing in our kids and reading, math, and strong curriculum and instruction in our Nation’s Capital!

DC is our nation’s capitol and at America’s 250th anniversary, let’s celebrate those who live, love, and work in the District and make our country stronger.
Today, DC is home to almost 700k residents. From the Wilson Building to the White House, the Big Chair to the Capitol, and Fort Dupont to Rock Creek, DC’s people are a reflection of the vibrant tapestry of our union.
Let’s reflect on the words of two prominent Washingtonians who helped shape these United States and fought tirelessly for the democratic rights of the people of the District: Frederick Douglas and Eleanor Holmes Norton.

Ward 8 Parent Leader LaSheema Burnett spoke on a panel today at the OSSE Strategic Plan Launch Event. She brought the parent perspective on how to prepare DC students for tomorrow’s opportunities. Thank you @OSSEDC for bringing parents to the table, and to @dcpcsb @yesimsy @DMEforDC and @chrisojalberts for coming together to speak about our children’s future!
Happy Pride Month! Celebrate who you are, who you love, and everyone that came before us to make this month possible 🏳️🌈💜💪
Happy Father's Day to all the dads and father figures! Special shoutout to the PAVE dads who are incredible advocates not just for their own kids, but for all kids in DC 💜 We hope you feel extra loved and celebrated today!
Today, we celebrate freedom.
Juneteenth honors June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas finally received word that the Emancipation Proclamation was law. Though issued January 1, 1863, Freedom’s Eve, it took nearly two years to reach Texas due to its Confederate control and geographic isolation.
Juneteenth is recognized as the nation’s second independence day and is both a celebration and a call to action. Today we're reminded of the importance of continuing our work to create an education system where all kids have the resources & opportunities they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
Wishing everyone a day to reflect on our history and how far we still need to go ❤️🖤💚✊🏾
