The driving force behind everything I advocate for is the deep unfairness and inequity I feel about the way I was able to experience childhood compared to how we treat young people in my adopted city. Whether it’s educational experience gaps or public safety- that’s my mission.
Headlines like this make people who won’t click and thoroughly read think something totally untrue. In fact- not a single member of the council is considering new taxes that would affect anyone with earnings under $1 million or a single small business.

People really need to learn the difference between centrist and pragmatist. You can be progressive and be a pragmatist, which I highly recommend!

This game proves what we already knew.
1) Nick Sirianni is the main issue and gotta go
2) Without Jalen Hurts, this team is 0-5 on it's way to 0-6
Season 2 of Sold a Story, so far, is looking to be dangerously wrong on many levels. The evidence for Direct Instruction is actually incredibly weak. It may be okay if the teaching of very basic rote skills, very much not for higher order. And fails to engage most disengaged students. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…
The same debate we’ve been having. Some people are like “sure you can do it nationally not but not in a state or city because what if rich people leave” and progressives focused on the real harm of not doing it for the constituents they serve locally.
Replying to @GavinNewsom
@GavinNewsom you are shilling for Prop 42, a billionaire backed initiative, banning billionaires from EVER facing a tax. Come on, man.
I am with the unions, @seiu_uwh & @SEIU1984, in backing a tax on billionaire so poor kids in California do not lose healthcare.
I hear policy people say all the time “It’s all about the implementation”- and they’re not without merit. But then they spend shockingly little time with the implementers in their work. If a policy consistently fails at implementation, maybe it’s not a great policy.

Don't know if Trump or associates asked Zuckerberg to disrupt No Kings; or if he saw it as a chance to curry favor with Trump; or if he so believes in Trumpist authoritarianism that he decided to help out.
But it's urgent to stop this from happening again--e.g., on election day.

In no other country in the world do you have a situation where parents who survived a school shooting telling their kids how to survive as they go through their own school shooting.
It does not have to be this way.

The reported attack on Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine by West Bank settlers is unconscionable and a moment of reckoning for the world. Are we going to tolerate accelerating vigilante violence against Palestinian civilians and foreign observers by right-wing vigilantes who operate with government protection? Given that Trump lifted President Biden's sanctions on vigilante settlers, we must work to end this chaos and insist upon protection of human rights and the rule of law on the West Bank.
Dozens of masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers trying to gather their autumn olive harvest. Heidi Levine, a veteran photographer for The Post, was also knocked her to the ground, kicked repeatedly and stripped of her camera and phone.

EXACTLY. Some people are more worried about not dissuading the wealthiest - who will barely feel new taxes- than about attracting and retaining the broadest swath of residents who come to DC in large part because of these services. Affordable child care will attract many more!
Replying to @maustermuhle
In a sense some lawmakers (and witnesses) make the argument that economic growth alone isn't what keeps people here and attracts new ones, but rather good and unique services and opportunities are.
So cheaper child care and free pre-K? Maryland and Virginia don't have that.
Don’t let anyone tell you DC doesn’t have a robust Republican Party! Trickle down economics, retired tax and spend tropes from three decades ago, and bad faith arguments undermining the social safety net are alive and well with these three!
The reason 3.5 % of residents pay more than 40 % of income taxes is bc there is MASSIVE wealth inequality in DC!!! I get the point that losing them would result in less $ for social programs - but there’s no evidence we would & safety net spending has extremely high economic ROI!
