HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, UGANDA!
As Uganda celebrates its Independence Day, we celebrate the resilience, courage and contributions of the people who continue to shape our nation.
Yet, as we reflect on our journey as a country, we must also ask ourselves: Whose stories are we telling? Whose contributions are we celebrating? And whose achievements remain unseen?
Young women with disabilities are part of Uganda’s history, present and future. They are leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, advocates, professionals and community builders whose contributions strengthen our families, communities and nation.
Their stories, however, are not always visible in our national narratives. Their achievements and leadership deserve greater recognition, and their voices must be part of the conversations that shape Uganda’s development.
True independence is not only about the freedom a nation attains; it is also about the dignity, inclusion and equal opportunities it extends to all its people.
As we celebrate Uganda, let us build a nation where every contribution matters, every voice counts, and young women with disabilities are recognised as equal participants in our collective progress.

Girls with disabilities have the right to education, bodily autonomy, protection, health and a future free from violence and forced marriage.
But rights without investment, accessible systems and meaningful inclusion remain promises.
Ahead of #IDGC2026 we ask what it will take to move from commitments to action.
