@nche_uganda Joins the @eduroam Family On 26th September 2026, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) joined the eduroam family, integrating secure and seamless connectivity into its operations and strengthening its connection to the wider global research and education ecosystem. As the regulator for higher education in Uganda, NCHE plays a central role in establishing standards, guiding the establishment and management of institutions, safeguarding the quality of higher education, supporting the recognition and equivalence of qualifications, and advising the Government on higher education matters. By joining eduroam, NCHE affirms the role of eduroam as the connectivity standard for Uganda's higher education and the enabler for institutional collaboration and knowledge exchange in Uganda. RENU Hosts Federated Identity Management (FIM) & eduroam Workshop 🌍 This week, RENU is proud to have hosted the Federated Identity Management (FIM) & eduroam Workshop, an @UbuntuNet Alliance AfricaConnect4 Systems Capacity Building Regional Training taking place from 17–21 August 2026 in Kampala, Uganda. The five-day workshop brought together 25 systems engineers from 13 countries and National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) across Eastern and Southern Africa, with Uganda as the host country, to strengthen regional capacity in federated identity management and @eduroam. Through practical learning, knowledge exchange, and collaborative planning, participants are strengthening their capacity to deploy, operate, and grow federated identity and eduroam services. The workshop is also supporting participants to build the technical and institutional foundations needed to advance these services within their respective countries. We are pleased to welcome our colleagues from across the UbuntuNet Alliance community to Uganda and to contribute to strengthening the expertise that supports secure and seamless access to research and education services across the region. Partnerships matter most when they strengthen the systems a country will need for what comes next. The signing of our MoU with @RENU_256 brings together research, connectivity, talent and applied AI around a shared national priority: strengthening the infrastructure and institutional capacity that can translate Uganda’s AI potential into productivity, innovation and new industries. The opportunity is in connecting these capabilities at scale, so that research can move into application, talent into productive capacity, and AI into real economic value for Uganda. Today, we hosted broadcasters, telecom operators, technology companies, and other key stakeholders to find practical ways of fighting digital piracy. Digital piracy is not just an intellectual property matter; it is hurting Uganda’s economy. Recent estimates show the country has lost over USD 100 million, with government tax revenue dropping by USD 25.3 million. These losses put jobs at risk in broadcasting, creative industries, and other related sectors. We are committed to working with all partners to protect local investments, support Ugandan talent, and build a fair and sustainable digital economy. #ConnectedUg2030 | #DigitalUganda @UCC_ED @UgCERT @ConsumerUCC @Bbossa

Either both are fouls or neither is a foul. But they’re not going to re-referee they told us. #itsshit
Egypt's disallowed goal was completely against how this tournament has been refereed. You can't have a light touch where you don't give fouls for minimal contact and then rule out a goal through VAR for a very minimal hold of the shirt. #ARGEGY

Thank you, Prof. @SsaliSarah, for the warm engagement with our team. We greatly value the cordial working relationship we have with Makerere University and are honoured to support the University in advancing digital transformation through resilient connectivity, research infrastructure, and innovative initiatives that enhance teaching, learning, and research. We look forward to deepening our collaboration through initiatives that continue to equip graduates with the digital skills and practical experiences needed to thrive in the evolving world. We appreciate the team from @Makerere University for visiting the RENU Labs facility. We remain committed to driving innovation that benefits the research and education community in Uganda and beyond. @RENUMESH_Tech
Our DVCAA Prof. @SsaliSarah has today held discussions with a delegation from the Research and Education Network for Uganda (@RENU_256) led by CEO, Nicholas Mbonimpa, aimed at broadening the existing partnership beyond internet service provision to supporting teaching, learning and research activities. The DVCAA expressed Makerere's desire to produce graduates that are not only academically grounded but also cognizant of the needs of the job market. She lauded initiatives such as provision of academic internship opportunities and asked RENU to identify, handhold and mentor promising talents beyond fulfilment of degree requirements. Mr. Mbonimpa appreciated the need to deepen collaboration and expressed RENU's readiness to continue improving ICT infrastructure in Makerere so as to boost teaching and support services. He highlighted the proposed Open Radio Access Network (RAN) Architecture deployment within 6 months to boost training of students in 5G and other technologies as an example. Other initiatives discussed included training staff and students on acquisition of Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) to improve visibility of their publications and research output. The delegation later led the DVCAA on a guided tour of RENU Labs' on-campus facility, where over 80 solar-powered routers have been assembled and shipped to various African countries such as Malawi, Rwanda and South Sudan under the RENUMESH Technologies joint venture.
