Advocate Mark Oppenheimer stood at a podium in Washington and walked through the moment Julius Malema looked a White farm-attack survivor in the eye and shrugged.
During the AfriForum “Kill the Boer” litigation, Oppenheimer put the facts to Malema under oath. An elderly White farmer testified from a wheelchair. Attackers had burst in. A shotgun blast dropped his wife in front of him with a catastrophic head wound. The same blast tore through his own 10th thoracic vertebra and severed his spinal cord. He would never walk again.
In court he broke down describing how the chant “Kill the Boer / Kill the farmer” still yanks him straight back to that room. Oppenheimer asked if that testimony, the murdered wife, the shattered spine, the tears, would make Malema stop singing it.
Malema’s answer was, “No. I am not moved. Let me repeat five times. I’m not moved by that case you brought here. I am not moved. And if that will make me lose this case, let me lose it. I am not moved.”
South Africa’s courts later decided the chant was not hate speech. Oppenheimer told the DC audience that is exactly why the fight had to leave those courtrooms and go international.

A direct message to the farm murder deniers: there is absolutely nothing "normal" about farm murders.
Farm murders are the only violent crime encouraged and romanticised by politicians through chants like "Kill the Boer, Kill the farmer" - a chant the president refuses to condemn as hateful, wrong, and unacceptable, and even defends.
Farm murders are the only violent crime the existence of is flat-out denied by the president of South Africa. "There are no killing of white farmers in South Africa" - President Ramaphosa (direct quote).
Farm murders are the only violent crime that some journalists make jokes about on social media.
Farm murders are the only violent crime where those who raise awareness about the issue are visciously lied about, insulted, mocked, slandered, intimidated, and some organisations, such as AfriForum and Solidarity, are even investigated by the police for "High Treason".
Farm murders are the only violent crime where activist journalists go out of their way to try to destroy the lives of those private citisens who dare try to bring international awareness to the issue online. If you gain significant traction online with your farm murder activism anonymously, major media companies will track you down and publish your name, the names of your loved ones, as well as where you and even your elderly parents live.
Farm murders are the only violent crime where the knee-jerk reaction of some is to immediately dismiss it by shouting South Africa’s general murder statistics into the faces of those concerned. For perspective, they don't subject activists against gender-based violence to the same dismissals.
Farm murders are the only violent crime of a unique nature that the SA government refuses to classify under National Priority Offences - unique crimes that get a specialised counter strategy - as outlined by the Police Act. Rhino poaching, GBV, gang violence, political assassinations, and cash-in-transit heists are examples of crimes already categorized under Priority Crimes.
Farm murders are the only violent crime where the government refuses FREE money from the United States to tackle the issue, which would also help resolve the ongoing diplomatic crisis.
In conclusion: There is absolutely nothing normal about an elderly farmer being tortured to death with a power drill. I reject that psychotic standard of "just normal crime" with the contempt it deserves.

21,000 people were murdered as a result of political violence during the last two decades of apartheid. More than 90% of them were murdered as a result of what the TRC described as 'black-on-black violence'.

If your local government does race-restrictive procurement, tell them to change it.
It has the power. This court order has just upheld it. If the council keeps requiring race, then it is by choice.
Well done @CityofCT @WesternCapeGov @amaBhungane @solidariteit
🔴 COMMENT: With today’s ConCourt victory over the Public Procurement Act, national government’s bid to capture control of all state procurement has for now been blocked.
Local governments – and every other state entity – keep the right to scrap ALL race-restrictive procurement clauses.
Well done to the applicants: Western Cape, Cape Town, amaBhungane, and Solidarity.🧵

Try to read this without getting drunk...
'If they confiscate your property and pay "nil" compensation, that's not the same as "without" compensation, because "without compensation" suggests that there is no number, but "nil" is a number, and therefore not the same as "without." So paying "nil" compensation is constitutional, because it's still compensation and therefore not the same as "without" compensation, which would've been unconstitutional.'
