Out in Nature today: how next-gen GLP-1 drugs cut cravings, not just hunger.
Congrats to co-first authors Lizzie, Bugra, and Isabelle in @GulerLab lab traced the circuit — drug → central amygdala → less dopamine in reward circuits. Mostly Ali's lab; we got to contribute. Proud of this team.

(1/n) Why is it so hard to stop eating when something tastes amazing? Our new @ScienceMagazine paper reveals that dopamine helps sustain our drive for tasty treats—and may explain how anti-obesity Ozempic tames those urges doi.org/10.1126/science.adt0…
Excited to share two big highlights from my research journey!
My abstract “A Brain Reward Circuit Inhibited by Next-Generation Weight Loss Drugs” was chosen for an SfN press conference — <50 selected out of 10,000+! We’ll be sharing our work to the media this November.
Also, next week I’ll present at GRC on catecholamines: molecular, circuit, behavior & brain disorders — joining top scientists to discuss neuromodulatory systems.
Grateful to share our work with the scientific community & the public — and to our amazing team: Elizabeth Godschall, Isabelle Sajonia, my PI @AliDGuler & collaborators @deppmann @AUGCsoup

GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are transforming the treatment of obesity and diabetes (and more). Our recent pre-print examined next-gen small molecules mimicking GLP-1, using humanized mouse models to uncover how they interact with brain circuits driving food consumption. 1/

Our article from Master’s studies has been published today! Here we used metabolome-wide screening to assess changes during PTEN-loss in hormone-refractory cancers and proposed potential combinatorial therapies. Congrats to all authors! @kaysudic
