(My yearly reminder to myself of how much I like TN's TTV compared to Pondy's, although I do think Nithyashree is excellent in it.)

Oh God, please be kind and rid this world of developmental economists so that they may do something useful, like knitting.

Which movie gave you the greatest theatrical experience of your life? Not just a great movie, but an experience that could never feel quite the same at home. The sound, the visuals, the crowd losing its mind, the silence during a devastating scene, or that feeling of walking out of the cinema completely overwhelmed. What film would you give anything to experience in a theater for the very first time again?

Oh, that this country doesn't have effective laws against criminal negligence.
A woman accidentally fell through a gap from the second floor of Mylapore Railway Station on the ground floor when she went to toilet room. The decomposed body was found and recovered four days after her daughter lodged a missing complaint. @THChennai

The surprise is Kochi. Does it really have such salubrious weather?

Energy capacity = economic capacity, in one chart There are no low electricity, rich countries
"Energy Capacity = Economic Capacity" Former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger on why America's power grid is the ceiling on growth: "We went through 10 to 15 years where essentially I was taking coal offline at the rate I was adding renewables, and essentially the nation was flatlined in terms of overall energy capacity." "So essentially our economic capacity as a nation, flat for fifteen years." "Even with that, we've gone to maybe increasing our national energy capacity 4% per year. Going from essentially zero to one." "Nuclear as base load is a fabulous thing that we want to go build more of. Unfortunately all of our renewables have deep dependencies in China." "Energy capacity somewhat dampens how euphoric we can get on AI. Why build a new data center and buy the million GPUs if I can't power them?" @PGelsinger @RaghuRaghuram @appenz

"ஆலைகள் வைப்போம் கல்விச் சாலைகள் வைப்போம்" Bharathi would have been reasonably proud of how TN has done.

Seeing the word 'izzat' a lot in trying to describe Indians. To my knowledge (which is admittedly wanting when it comes to Urdu) it simply means honour. If true, honour is usually a good thing. Why is foreign SM making a vice of it?

It is an unfortunate (and slightly disgusting) compromise, but it looks like TN is discovering this with TVK, if the GST collection data is any indication.
Corruption is the grease that keeps Indian economy running. If Indians followed India's socialist laws to the letter then the economy would grind to a halt. It's not a coincidence that a low-corruption Kerala is struggling to grow currently.

May TN find it in itself to get rid of socialist laws so that development can proceed in a corruption free manner.

A remarkable number of kids send me emails after reading the occassional newspaper column. Because they find it silly and funny. Indian newspapers had a long history of silly and funny that they sacrificed at the altar of 'edgy' and 'septic tank'. But I feel that people, especially kids, are just starved of silly, harmless, funny stories and things. Just benign comedic relief from the flaming depraved public culture of our satanic quotidian existence.

Madurai is also a lot cleaner than the rankings would suggest.
Madurai is a consistent performer of Tamil Nadu. It's GDP nearly doubled in 5 years. Madurai UA itself contribute 89.6% GDP to the district which is similar share of Coimbatore to its district. Coimbatore has got Pollachi but Madurai got no major secondary urban centre. 1/2

The railways has the same problem. Building a high speed rail or even quadrupling existing tracks or putting new tracks in place will be technically feasible (the state is one narrow straight light), but very very expensive.
Land prices in cities are cheap but Kerala as a whole has the highest real estate prices in India (despite being stagnant for a decade) because the demand is distributed across the statewide suburban sprawl. This is also why land acquisition for NHAI expansion was so expensive.

Would never happen in a darshini. One of those strange distinctions between TN and KA.
Went to have lunch to a hotel in TN I asked for dosa They said, only meals available Hope there are no connotations to this layering and discrimination against Dosa at lunch

One of the most interesting dissimilarities between Tamil and Malayalam is the use of the loan word vyavasaayam/ vivasaayam. It means industry in Malayalam and agriculture in Tamil.
Another banger by SGK on why Kerala needs to focus on high-speed rail. Any chance of revival for Kerala’s economy to be not only for silver hairs requires an HSR.

It is a sad coincidence (in TN's case) that both states seem to be interested in vyavasayam/vivasayam as they mean in their respective state language.
