Hayek will be even more relevant in the era of AI agents.
Kerala's niche seems to be tapping into speciality manufacturing that takes advantage of its consumption base. Like this Kochi firm which manufactures e-bikes for people without licences at a max speed of 25 km/h. They sell 1,000 units a year and employ 40 people.
We need to build one massive data centre in the 1000 acre acquired at Kannur. Need to figure out power too.
Our forecasts are too aggressive according to @altcap
Don’t believe your lyin’ eyes
I hope people governing Kerala get this: improving education will not get us better-paying jobs. It will come from letting industries expand first. No big firms competing for workers, no well-paying jobs.
Excellent and emotive piece by @guptar (really one of my favourites writing on India) on the lack of decent employment opportunities in the country.
Apparently, communists boosted education to enable Gulf migration; it is just propaganda. The bulk of migration it is concentrated in Cochin-Travancore and Malappuram.

By the 1980s, Kottayam and Ernakulam were among Kerala’s most literate districts, with relatively high proportions of graduates. However, migration rates from these districts remained low, suggesting that education levels and migration rates were not necessarily correlated.

Commies, Malayalis, what is the difference between Kerala Govt borrowing money at lower interest rates, and KIIFB borrowing money at higher interest rates, to acquire land for NH66?
If you are work is forever remote : and you care about AQI and water quality and urbane-ness, Kerala is your best bet.
Shifted out of Mumbai last week. Gradually realised the city will be in a perpetual state of construction since that's how contractors and in turn ministers will make money. So there'll always be that next project, next renovation to make your life tough. And if nothing else, they'll break an existing one completed just few years ago to make something bigger. Living in Mumbai constantly felt like life in hard mode. And with a baby in picture, wanted to have a little bit of greenery and space around. And eventually schools with space.
Used to love the city when I came 9 years back from Delhi. But something shifted some years back, specially post lockdown. Incidentally I think Mumbai was good to live as long as 'Dilli se aaya hai kya?' used to be an insult. Now let's see..
Kerala should raise prices for tourists. What’s the point bringing these deadbeats over , the externalities are much more than their spending budget. Tourism won’t be a success industry for Kerala.

I'm perfectly fine with worker cooperatives. I only take issue with the government subsidizing its losses. Which is what India, and especially Kerala, does currently.
I have talked to those robotics guys, they see zero demand in Kerala , because it makes no economic sense with operator wages , the places with orders are huge plantations in Indonesia. Over regulation leads to evaporation of markets than automation. See paddy farming in Kerala.

Historically, productivity increases came with rising wages in the west due to rise in fall back options (Acemoglu, D., 2002). Technology is wage-biased (Hayek, 1942). Increase wages, you'd see productivity shooting up. Kerala's new coconut-reaping machine is an example.

I'm pro for selling fruit wine through bakeries in Kerala.
May be make the alcohol % a bit less than 6% and allow Kudambasree like self-help groups to start wine business.
Let economy get a slight boost in whatever way possible.

Those who are saying KIIFB wasn't a failure because it invested in projects, I have one question:
What's the point of KIIFB borrowing at higher interest rates than the State Govt?
Why not the State borrow and give money to KIIFB if your vision is just a project execution arm?
Except in Kerala, you can decent stuff at 65L starting, but you need to get to lean FIRE stage first.
Repeat after me, Kerala’s gulf emigration is not the result of communist human capital build up. These are just straight up lies. The guy is a non Malayali so Malayali communists must have spread these lies.

🚫👑 Kerala’s 96% literacy didn't come from the free market or the Church—it came from the 1957 Communist land reforms and the 1989 Left literacy campaign. The Left built the human capital that your "free market" later exploited in the Gulf.
