When was it proven to be from 1st century Judea? I’m aware of the speculation on a repaired corner, and that could plausibility account for the late dating of the edge fabric, but I wasn’t aware of anything that proves an earlier date.

Seeing as how it has been proven to be from 1st century Judea and the only study showing it’s from the Middle Ages came from testing a repaired portion of the shroud and there’s no technology from that time period that could create such an artifact, I don’t see a forgery.

I also think Mormonism is false, but y’all’s opinion that he was nailed twice is the least of the reasons why. I also dont think two nails vs one really makes a difference either.

Zooming in, let’s take a closer look. In the palm you see a dark spot. Now remember, this hand isn’t laying flat, it’s over the opposite hand. That means this wrist is cocked so that the hand contours over the arm. Picture how blood would drain from such a hand if the hole was in the palm. It wouldn’t likely drain evenly all around the wound, it would drain from the lowest point of the wound. The dark area in the wrist - to me at least - suggests that the imprint of a hole is intended to be seen here. Just my $.02, but I think even if you assume that the relic is authentic, it’s difficult to claim with absolute certainty that the hole is further down - not in the palm. Certainly possible, but not possibly absolutely certain.

I call the lunate bone part of the palm, it very much looks to be at the intersection of the Lunate, Scaphoid, and Capitate bones. Which is very much the palm.

Possibly. 🤷‍♂️ Or the blood drained downward from a higher hole. Or the blood ran out while positioning him from a hole in the wrist. And if this is really the burial cloth, why would we expect blood there at all? Again - you can make assumptions, but that’s about it.

You can see the direction the blood is draining in the shroud. It seems to me that you don’t like it because it disproves your position, the same way Protestants don’t like it.

Yes, a blood stain showing the location of the nail wound. It shows the wound being in his palm down towards the base, around the lunate and scaphoid bones. You can see the whipping marks on his arms in that photo too.

I don’t really have a dog in this fight, I haven’t studied the stigmata that much but I can respect the reverence many Catholics have in their belief of it being a legitimate mystical connection to Christ. Just was pushing back a little on your statement that they align with the shroud, as my interpretation is they don’t that closely. Totally fine if you’re saying it isn’t important—but it sounded like you were saying something different earlier.

I appreciate the push back from you, I’m saying both really. The exact location of where they appear doesn’t matter that much, and they’ve been documented in some instances to be closer to that of the shroud. It’s also hard to say when only four saints in modern times had them.

Thanks for posting some bangers Kramer, I can always count on you! Those are depicting St Francis of Assisi, who was documented as having them at the base of the hand/wrist like that shown in the shroud. Here’s another artwork of him.

Again, I don’t really see the location of stigmata’s as important. They’re a mystical experience and the location is likely based on where the individual believes the wounds to be located on Jesus.
