Truly moved and delighted to announce that @chidley_chris and I will open labs this September at @Duke_PCB ! The Darnell lab will be delving deep into how amino acid limitation perturbs the ribosome at specific codons...
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Alicia Darnell @amcdarnell and Dr. Christopher Chidley @chidley_chris as our newest Assistant Professors 👋. pcb.duke.edu/news/pcb-appoin…

My lab’s 5-year NIH R01 grant, awarded to study gene therapy for hearing loss, was abruptly terminated. I want to share how this action has been incredibly harmful and disruptive, not just to my lab, but to the scientific process itself. 1/15

To my science framily,
As we reflect on this election season, I want to take a moment to acknowledge that things may not have gone as we had hoped or expected. I wish I was shocked that America did not elect its first woman and woman of color to the presidency but I am angry and disappointed. I know times like these can stir a mix of emotions and concerns. I, too, share fears for the future of science, federal support for the marginalized and elderly, and the rights of my family and loved ones.
In moments like this, I am especially grateful for each of you. Your diverse values, perspectives, and individual journeys add incredible strength to our community. Our communities are spaces where everyone’s unique contributions and insights are respected and valued, and I am deeply appreciative of the care, dedication, and vision each of you brings. I see you, I hear you, and I grieve alongside you.
Take a beat to rest and recover and then let’s continue to support one another, stay focused on the meaningful work we’re doing, and foster an environment where everyone feels empowered to thrive. Thank you for being who you are.
Joy comes in the morning, as it always will.
With gratitude,
Donita
