1/I am pleased to share our new preprint, "Vision shapes neural maps of space through an ancient midbrain pathway," in which we determine how visual signals used in neural representations of space reach the hippocampus (HC). biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
Congrats @AngeloF76641 and Michael Yartsev, very cool work!

1/12 How do animals build an internal map of the world? In our new paper, we tracked thousands of neurons in mouse CA1 over days/weeks as they learned a VR navigation task. @nspruston @HHMIJanelia, w/ co-1st author @JohanWinn

This was a very challenging review to write, but was also a lot of fun due to working with thoughtful co-authors Dylan Martins (@dmmartins), Joy Manda, and Phil Parker (@CosmouseVision).

Excited to share our new results! We (huge team effort led by post-doc extraordinaire @SLLesuis) examined the effects of acute stress on threat memory generalization and engram ensemble architecture.

New preprint post! We show that motor commands in the superior colliculus shift the internal representation of heading during REM sleep despite the immobility of sleeping mice. Thus, the brain simulates actions and their consequences during REM sleep.🧵1/7

New paper from the lab 🥳 @NatureNeuro
The 'internal compass' can do more than tracking head-direction (HD) 👉 thalamic HD cells respond to sensory stimuli and are modulated by behavioral state (e.g. during social interactions)

Our new paper led by @johnhwen1 & Ben Sorscher w/ @lisa_giocomo revealing how grid cells fuse landmarks & self-motion to create maps of new environments in a *single* exposure; our model predicts the detailed map of a new env *before* the mouse enters it!
