New work out now in BJH! Brilliant structural biologist Gabriele Mayr from Andre Franke's group has developed a web resource to score unknown Kell blood group variants based on structural and biophysical parameters. Thanks for letting me be a part of it! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Extremely excited to share our newest work, the outcome of an exceptional success story by DPhil student Matthew Hankins, a great collab with @seegerlab and @pstansfeld's group. Structure & Function of MprF, a lipid scramblase from P. aeruginosa: science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

A very exciting and successful era is coming to an end: Members of the #MBU_Lab @BiochemOxford in a final group photo before heading towards new adventures! Next up: stories on blood group antigens and immunogenetics from my new scientific home @UFL_official.

Huge congratulations to #MBU_Lab's stellar students Sam Bannon and Matthew Hankins for successfully conducting their DPhil Vivas at @BiochemOxford this month! This is what a very proud PI looks like. 😁🎉👍

How cool.
Very excited to share our preprint on "Photoswitchable Inhibitors of the Sarco(endo)plasmic Calcium Pump" which was made possible through an interdisciplinary team of collaborators: @MichalJurek5, @BaranLabReads, @PoulNissen and @DirkTrauner. Link: doi.org/10.26434/chemrxiv-20….

#RNA origami may bring us to a cheaper and more sustainable production of important biochemicals, e.g. medicine. @AndersenBioLab show how they improve the production of valuable molecules by using microorganisms, #RNAorigami, and #CRISPR technology. 🧬 inano.au.dk/about/news-event…

Am I the only one who thinks leaf blowers should be banned.... They are loud, they stink, and they are utterly useless bc they blow stuff all over the place rather than making a pile. They also wake sleeping babies. Grrr. What's wrong with the good old rake? Sorry, random rant.😅

Though I wonder when I'll actually ever figure out to get a tweet right the first time around... 😅😆

In good old days, an experienced senior crystallographer in a lab (or an institute) used to check a model residue by residue. Today, inexperienced students and postdocs think this scrutinization can be substituted with optimization of clash score, Molprobity score etc. No.

How cool. Non-hydrolysable ATP analogs are so old school. Add ATP to the sample and watch the protein do its job on the grid!
This is how we should look at membrane protein complexes! Excellent work by Guo and Rubinstein, congrats to both (@RubinsteinJohn)! (And: The paper comes with a ton of EMD and PDB entries..) Structure of ATP synthase under strain during catalysis disq.us/t/474yjsq

I have managed to create a #blender3d plugin for quickly and easily getting structural biology data into #blender! It supports models and MD trajectories, and once you have the atoms inside of #geometrynodes, you can creative! Check it out: github.com/BradyAJohnston/Mo…
