20% is far too generous!! @SouthernWater data says that Upto 70% of EDM signals are modified; many are false alarms! They are also using 12/24 spill accounting - this means multiple spills in any 12h period is counted as ONE spill - the EA demands new. MCERT data every 15 mins
Watch this space!
What is required @DefraGovUK :
1) EDM that measures flow volume and not just start/stop
2) Accuracy on EDMs - we predict 20% give inaccurate readings
3) More transparency from the water industry and penalties for lack of transparency.

The failure of water industry privatisation laid bare! How much of your water bill is swallowed up by company debt? Great work by @guardian further exposing the sewage scandal & financial racket of the water industry. Here’s @SouthWestWater’s record. Check the crazy dividends. theguardian.com/environment/… – at South West, England

Rumours afoot that Therese Coffey is on her way out as Environment Secretary.
With any luck she'll be replaced with a candidate who will be more dynamic, more proactive and more committed to the job.
For example, this potato.

They've already ran off with £72bn of our money, left our rivers full of sewage and abstracted local chalk streams to a point of extinction and to top it all off you're about to face the biggest increase in water bills in 20 years.
And gov approved it.

Stats for Sewage Pollution into the sea around Hayling Island for 2021. Thanks to @SouthernWater and the @EnvAgency for making this happen. The locals are obviously over the moon about this persistent problem.
Time for the @EnvAgencySE to start regulating!

Excellent job by Rod Porteous of Portsmouth Canoe Club being interviewed by @BBCSouthNews @jamesingham this morning! Great turnout from local canoeists to say a few words about the pollution issues around Hayling/Portsmouth and how it affects them. #stopsewagepollution #hayling
Does this guy still have a job? He's not made of regulatory stuff! It the EA was doing its job properly between 2010-1015 we would have less pollution and @SouthernWater would be £90M better off! #endsewagepollution
Environment Agency Director; 'It's not my nature to assume that people will abuse a system..' Which would mean we don't need a regulator, but we desperately do and we don't have one that is fit for purpose. #EndSewagePollution @GeorgeMonbiot @joe_crowley
We welcome the @EnvAgency investigation BUT as Southern Water did during their recent £90M trial they **stopped** servicing EIR requests. Often EIR requests is the only was we can get Heath and safety information.
