Today is “Rare Disease Day,” 40 yrs aftet Congress created a law to encourage pharmaceutical firms to develop so-called ‘orphan drugs’ to treat small patient populations w/ rare genetic diseases
— Today, half of all new drugs approved by the FDA are orphans
— They are the most expensive, w/ huge profit margins. The orphan market is forecast to double to $66 billion in the next decade
In “Billion-Dollar Orphans,” chp 50 of my book, PHARMA, I expose how drug companies have learned to game the Orphan Law

First, folks caught @CNET quietly publishing machine learning-generated stories. Then came the revelation that the AI-generated content was “riddled with factual errors.” Now, it appears the site’s AI has “been a serial plagiarist—of actual humans' work.” futurism.com/cnet-ai-plagiar… – at Los Angeles, CA

Looks like the NIH has set up a new website so that people in the US can finally report home test results: makemytestcount.org/
Hopefully these results will be made public soon, and are factored into policymaking, as current data may be undercounting by as much as 20x.
Rapid #COVID19 test results could help guide public health responses, but these results are not typically reported.
Now, NIH has launched a website to anonymously report the results of these at-home tests in a secure manner. Check it out: bit.ly/3GDZmo2
