Dear @rorkygreg @FFA & @green_dot, please find below an open letter outlining my concerns with details of the Western Melbourne Group EOI #ALeagueExpansion submission that have been made public. Happy to dicuss off-line. drive.google.com/file/d/1fV4…
Hello Matt, in my view, it doesn’t matter if you “actually agree with most of what I’ve said”.
Details matter, & time & time again your details are effectively pointing to expansion & protection of, & governance & control by, the APL CARTEL’S ‘CLOSED SHOP’ #FAKE⚽️ #ALEAGUE TOURNAMENT (aka The NPL on Bonza ✈️s).
IMO, this is sheer 🇦🇺⚽️ lunacy given all available information & the now “Trans-Tasman” positioning (since when?) of the #FAKE⚽️ tier.
You also continue to - IMO - effectively demean the existing work of 🇦🇺⚽️ clubs, FA, & AAFC which has delivered the #AusChampionship (AC) by never/rarely mentioning the important step of #ProRelforAUS between the AC & the NPL & a development towards FT professionalism (which is logical, it’s already almost there with many AC clubs targeting/implement 4x a week training, & beefing up their ⚽️ operations, medical support staff, along with playing 35+ games a season).
Details matter, & in your case, they define thoughts/direction which, in my assessment, are actually entirely unrelated & non-alike, irrespective, if some points align/are agreed upon no? 🤔

We need to ensure that ⚽️ is accessible to all and managed for the benefit of all as opposed to self-interest.
An independent enquiry is the best way to ensure that this happens and ensure the game’s ability to thrive over the next 20-30 years

Domestically though is a different story
⚽️ has stagnated at the top level but the NPL is growing rapidly
Clubs have ambitions but are being blocked
We have a disconnected football pyramid dominated by self-interest
Losing $23m over the last 2 financial years is a worry.

I am encouraging people to sign this call for an independent enquiry into Football Australia to ensure that it is meeting the highest standard of governance especially having lost $23m over the last 2 financial years.

It will be interesting to see how #MelbourneDerby compares this weekend. Can @MelbourneCity create half the atmosphere @smfc did in the @AustraliaCup ?

11 votes • 53 minutesAttention to anyone in 🇦🇺⚽️ talking to Matt Windley on or off air & when faced with the inevitable #ProRelAus (A1+A2 = 💩) question.
Please consider the following narrative in response:
“I/we would like to see #ProRelForAUS implemented between the #AusChampionship & the NPL as soon as possible as a viable/realistic next step. We see FT professionalism in a H&A #AusChampionship as a viable target within 5-10 years &/or earlier, developing organically based on each club’s individual readiness.”
Please also consider adding the following:
“We currently don’t have great confidence that the APL Cartel can administer the #ALeague adequately, let alone the proposed A1 + A2.
FA & AAFC have worked with clubs Australia-wide to deliver the #AusChampionship, we’re focussed on working with them to grow & evolve this competition & structural framework.”
Time to bring some balance to this one-sided campaign whose sole aim - based on available evidence - effectively boils down to expanding & protecting the interests of the APL CARTEL’S ‘CLOSED SHOP’ #FAKE⚽️ #ALEAGUE TOURNAMENT (aka The NPL on Bonza ✈️s) no? 🤔
P.S. Thank you for your consideration!

Dont talk about realities when your opinions are coming from nothing but your own feelings. You know nothing about 99.9% of the clubs. you've done 0 research into anything. You have no idea about what it takes to run an open tier and the benefits and challenges of it. Just yappin

Thanks @JamesJarvisFM a lot of effort went into it. Love your pod!
A well thought out and balanced petition, well worth a read and of course sign and support it if you agree.
And whether you agree with the petition or not, what the game needs in this country is more passion and more healthy discourse around it. So kudos to @grazorblade84

Just on this, quite a few influencers in the game have said they want to sign but worry about burning bridges. I am actually fine with that! Change.org verifies signatures so you can sign anonymously with your first name
Signed! ✍️
If you’re tired of 🇦🇺⚽️ governance & the outcomes being delivered by the former FRANK’S @FootballAUS, you should consider signing too.
P.S. For those who deep down want to sign & promote the initiative but decide not to due to some sort of perceived personal-gain/relationship risk with the federation &/or #FAKE⚽️, that says a lot about where you stand in relation to the game in this country no? 🤔

🚨 Arsene Wenger on reports Manchester City could face a 100-point deduction:
🗣️ Arsene Wenger: “One hundred points is not enough. It does not even begin to cover the damage they have done. For years they have spent money that other clubs could not match, signed players that other clubs could not compete for, and won titles that other clubs had no realistic chance of challenging. And now we are supposed to believe a points deduction is the full price of that.
“The Premier League has been distorted. The table has been distorted. The transfer market has been distorted. Clubs that tried to play by the rules have been left behind while one club operated on a different financial planet. A hundred points does not give those clubs their seasons back. It does not give them the players they lost in the market. It does not give them the titles that were decided before a ball was kicked.
“They should be relegated. They should be banned from Europe for longer than five years. The ownership should be forced to sell. And every title won during the period under investigation should be stripped. Anything less is an insult to every club that has been competing against an unfair advantage.
“I have said for years that financial rules only matter if they are enforced properly. If the evidence is as serious as these reports suggest, then one hundred points is the minimum, not the maximum. The damage they have caused to the competition is bigger than any single punishment that has been discussed. The league needs to show it is willing to protect itself. Right now, even a hundred points looks like a compromise.”
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Arsene Wenger did not say this. The quote is fabricated; no credible sources record these statements and his actual comments differ.
