1/ Thrilled to share the first work from the Ott lab (@OttTorben), with OpenScope at @AllenInstitute! We focused on how #psilocybin πchanges visual processing during active behavior in mice.
We combined visual change detection with large-scale Neuropixels recordings in mice.

Is AI conscious? I have no idea. But I'm excited to spend a week talking about problems in consciousness, disorders of consciousness, dreaming, delirium, perception that may actually be experimentally tractable π

This is certainly the most consequential paper published in child and adolescent psychiatry for the last few years. It shows that the meta-analyses that current child psychiatry guidelines rely on to recommend fluoxetine for depression were skewed by an unbelievable trial (n=40) in Iran which found an effect 15 times larger than the average.
When this trial is removed all meta-analyses find the same as a recent Cochrane analysis which found 'small and unimportant differences.'
The flawed meta-analyses by Zhou and @cipriani in the @TheLancet and Lancet Psychiatry need to be corrected.
And guideline committees need to update their guidance in the context of the harms of these drugs including withdrawal effects, sexual effects and agitation/akathisia and suicidality in a minority of youths exposed to them.

Guidelines should stop recommending antidepressants for children with depression. The new analysis confirms what has been suspected for years that benefits of antidepressants, including fluoxetine, are minimal & will not compensate for known harms. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/β¦

Too many neuro preprints to keep track of, so I made a monthly ranking of the most-read ones on bioRxiv. Not a measure of quality, just what people are reading. Here's the fresh ranking for September: robertodf.github.io/biorxiv-β¦

4/ Our findings point to a previously unrecognized role for SST interneurons in the acute psychedelic state, potentially linking altered surprise signals to visual distortions.
A huge thank-you to the entire OpenScope team, especially @LecoqJerome, for making this work possible!

4 years and 6 rounds of review later, our mega-entropy analysis is published in Nature Communications! Major points: most previously reported fMRI entropy metrics don't replicate, some do, and they have very little to do with each other, so be specific! xx
