1/ Thrilled to share the first work from the Ott lab (@OttTorben), with OpenScope at @AllenInstitute! We focused on how #psilocybin 🍄changes visual processing during active behavior in mice.
We combined visual change detection with large-scale Neuropixels recordings in mice.
Group leaders, postdocs, PhDs, undergrads: We need your feedback on our draft handbook in establishing and running SAFE labs (a practical, evolving tool to improve lab culture)! forms.office.com/e/XYxs1anhd…

Thrilled that our proposal (@OttTorben, @LabSchmitz) to investigate the effect of #Psilocybin 🍄 on cortical networks 🧠 was selected by the Openscope platform @AllenInstitute @LecoqJerome. Read more about it here: alleninstitute.org/news/mapp… #psychedelics
Thanks to the organizers and let's make labs more SAFE!

Attentional mechanisms enable selective processing of information. With Ruobing Xia, @Xiaomo_CCLab, and Tirin Moore, we review work across species, forms of attention, and analysis levels, revealing convergence and differences. Out today in @TrendsCognSci: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

What do you get when you combine RL and predictive coding? The in vivo activity patterns of serotonin neurons.
Excited to share a new theory and analysis to back it up! doi.org/10.1101/2023.09.19.5…

Mice reaching up for rewards! 🐭💪🏻
Current tasks for assessing motivation may have some extra cognitive demands not purely related to physical effort which may confound result interpretation and outcomes.
We´ve developed a task to minimise these confounds: the RED task! 🧵👇

Finally read this in our jclub-water ingestion leads to long (30+min) activity increase in a subset of dopamine neurons, depending on projection (and in NAc dopamine might even decrease?!)-we should know how repeated, small water ingestion in our behavioral tasks affects dopamine
I’m excited to share that our paper is online today in @Nature. We investigate how animals learn what foods and fluids hydrate them. Sincere thanks to my mentor @zaknight and thanks to collaborators @berke_lab and @AnatolKreitzer. (1/6) nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

Psychologists have posited hundreds of cognitive biases over the years. A fascinating new paper argues that they all boil down to one of a handful of fundamental beliefs coupled with confirmation bias. doi.org/10.1177/174569162211…

Yesterday a letter from 100 scientists declared the popular theory of consciousness - Integrated Information Theory - is "pseudoscience."
And that media about it is "scientific misinformation."
The letter is bad. Here's my reply why: theintrinsicperspective.com/…
